So - I recently discovered the game. The subject and treatment looks great to me, I have been drawing ships on my notebooks since I was at high school, I've always been frustrated by naval wargames where you only play one battle and can afford a Pyrrhic victory, etc. So, RTW2 is the game for me, it seems.
Even better, it has a free demo !
Grab the demo. RTFM. Fire up the game.... Oh dear. I'm faced with a rather full interface with dozen of buttons, pages of information, etc, etc. Well, this is what I bargained for, no complains here. Most of the components I sort of understand (there are still some zones of obscurity, but nothing that the manual cannot cure).
But. Where do I start ? What do I do now ? Let's say I'm Japan, and it's 1920. What is my first action ? How do I do that ?
So, essentially, if there was somewhere a tutorial, or if somebody could walk me through the first few turns, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million !
Jeff

Hello and welcome! The "RTFM"-part was a very clever first move, but - as you realized - the first experience can still be somewhat overwhelming, plus to be fair, some tricks and tips are not present in the manual either. (Hell, a couple bits of information are not present anywhere.) Perhaps the easiest way would be to go on YouTube and look for Rule the Waves 2 tutorials, or playtroughs, which could be a good way to begin as that should be commentated material, and you could get a grasp of the game flow and the modus operandi. The other is just slamming into the game, don't be afraid to screw up, and if you come up with any specific question, feel free to ask it either here or on the discord server (with all my love to the discord, these boards are probably the better idea due to the more permanent nature of the discussion). I am aware that this isn't the kind of answer that would directly help you, but in a way it's probably better than writing 40 pages about a random '20 Japanese step-by-step.

Hmm, I've never been a great fan of youtube tutorials, being of the old-fashioned kind ("if I cannot read it I cannot believe it...."), but thanks ! I'll start there anyway ! You're right, it is probably better than 40+ pages of tedious description of every click...

You can always stop by the rtw discord if you use discord. discord.gg/csxpkcPeople there should be more than willing to help with any questions over the first turns, or even walkthrough a few turns with you, if you prefer that to RTFM or video watching. Edit: Opps, didn't see this being suggested above, but if you'd like some turn by turn walkthrough I can help on discord. (Would've loved to type some paragraph as well, but I am too drowsy from waking up to articulate anything xD)

I feel like it should also be noted that in this game there are many ways to play. There is no "one true way". There are multiple tactics and design strategies, each has its merits and drawbacks. Manyw ays to play are one of the good things of this game.

Much appreciated, although I'm not (anymore) a 20-something with lots of free time on my hands, so I prefer to do these things in my own time these days. Mostly in trains, too, so much for internet access... YouTube will serve. But, a very generous offer nonetheless.
