v1.11 and hi guys.
Situation played out like this
1932 dive bomber Skua was developed 1934 dive bomber Whammer is developed with important range changes
1935 Skua B is invented but it still doesnt have the range of the Whammer
The Skua B is auto developed and some of my carrier groups convert to it, losing the range I wanted them to have
>>> So what we need is an option when a new airplane model B, C, D etc is invented we get a choice to develop it or not. This screen already exists. The screen coming up should also show the planes of that type currently in use and already under (Dev) development. then we can accept or cancel using the B, C, D etc

Seems like you should just mark the Skua B as obsolete, preventing it from being deployed, or am I missing something.

Seems like you should just mark the Skua B as obsolete, preventing it from being deployed, or am I missing something. Assuming they player catches that one message amid the many turn messages. This isn't necessarily straightforward when a battle may start taking hour(s) to play possibly with the game saved in battle. Next day reloading the game fighting hour(s) of battle it is very easy to forget during turn messages. Hence recommending it pop up a "do you want to dev" with the existing comparison of active types. The current logic seems a bit off if its phrased as a new version of one of several models in use is made so of course we will swap your combat squadrons into it without your approval. :-P

This is intentional. Many nations had obsolete or less efficient aircraft in use in WW2 because there was not enough of the newer or better types.

But if my squadrons are already equipped they shouldn't be forced into using obsolete aircraft because of an insufficient improvement that doesnt compare to the existing better plane they are using. I understand having he logistics to the airplane system. That part is a good thing. Its if I obsolete a plane the obsolete B shouldn't necessarily replace preferred planes. I believe this is what I saw happening. Having the choice menu pop up gives us the choice to access the obsolete-B production cue.

This is intentional. Many nations had obsolete or less efficient aircraft in use in WW2 because there was not enough of the newer or better types. In some cases, pilots preferred the older, "obsolete" design. Case in point: the Fairey Albacore was developed as a more modern version of the Swordfish. Enclosed and heated cockpit, better engine, cleaned up lines - the whole works. The Swordfish served on for another year after the Albacore was retired.
