On the carrier squadrons:
What I would be happy with is if we could use the "change role" function to shift land squadrons to carrier squadrons including the loss of one step of quality. While they certainly do need training in carrier landings and refreshing sea navigation most of a pilot's skills are transferable. The drop in quality does account for the "oh bugger the landing strip is moving" while still recognizing their existing ilities in dog fighting and bombing. Those latter do persist.
