Hi,
i have a problem with the Battle Generator.
Whenever i create a scenario with the generator:
* The scenario setting of theatre, nation control and year are not important.
* But, whatever the force composition is
- if a make the forces with a lead division and start the scenario:
a message appears "Timed Out! No contact between fleets!" and they end on the coast of West-Africa = Scenario end.
- if i have only independent divisions: for all ships the message "Warning! Ship: XXX has zero original endurance!" (where XXX is the ship-name) appear.
The ships are placed in the North-Sea, but i can't steer the ships and if i run the scenario, the same messages appear with additional "XXX has less than 50% fuel remaining!" (or sometimes 20%).
Regards, Marco

After reading this, fired up stock SAI and started eight North Sea generated battles, four British and four German. Randomized size, weather and composition then ran each battle to point of contact. None of these errors showed up so the some questions should be:
Have you modded your SAI installation in any way?
Have you edited the North Sea.qbf file at all?
Have you edited any of the *.sdf files for ships included in the North Sea.qbf?
I recall that this has been reported before but is virtually impossible to reliably replicate on demand.

Thanks randomizer,
but i didn't mod any of the files.
I reinstalled SAI, but the same problem.
Maybe some pictures, tell more than words:

The problem only exists, when you select "Pick force" under Force level in the Battle Generator window.
The rest can be random.

Ah, never bothered with the "Pick Forces" option. Work stopped on SAI years ago so it is unlikely that any fix for this issue will be coming anytime soon. In the meantime, you can save the battle and edit the save file to fix the endurance problems and locations. Then you can run the save and get the action that you desired. Clunky and unsatisfactory perhaps but it is the only solution I can offer.

I appreciate your honesty but it is a pity that "Work stopped on SAI years ago so it is unlikely that any fix for this issue will be coming anytime soon."
It is understandable that all work on RTW has stopped now that we have RTW2 but SAI seems a very different game. Particularly the Campaign mode looks fascinating and something cannot really be matched by RTW2.
I have purchased RTW in the past and later RTW2 (and I do love them: they are superb and an amazing achievement. Congratulations) but have never bought SAI. So far I have only played the demo. So in all this talking of mine there is more guessing and expectation than hard knowledge on my side.
Still, in spite of SAI's current status I think I will purchase it. Hopefully this may also encourage you guys to re-evaluate its status and give it a chance. It seems it is already a well rounded game and it wouldn't need any big fix. Just maintenance should not take lots of resources and some small updates should be easy. Just an idea (and a wish)...

I will note that we have had requests for an 'SAI 2" game, but unfortunately I can make no forecast at this time as to if that will become a reality or not...

@ Dasein,
Just to let you know I am no longer a member of the NWS development team and have asked William Miller to remove that text from my profile. I left the Team several years ago when work begin on RTW-2.
Nothing that I wrote should be taken to represent NWS in any context or sense. Apologies for the confusion, I should have asked William to fix this years ago.
I was part of SAI and SAI-RJW development working as a tester and advising on gunnery issues (my professional background was artillery ballistics and ammunition) and still play both regularly. However, that I enjoy them and prefer the historicity of SAI over the sandbox of RTW says nothing whatsoever about what you may like. SAI lacks many of the details that were injected into the RTW series but still provides a solid simulation of naval combat in the first two decades of the 20th Century, at least in my biased opinion.
Cheers

Cheers Hi Randomizer, It seems you may have taken my comment rather personally. It wasn't my intention, really. Your posts are always very helpful to the SAI community.
Anyway, I've bought SAI now and played a bit. It is as good as I hoped for or even better. Thank you for your role in making it possible.

Hi Dasein,
At the time that I replied, my signature block stated that I was still a member of the NWS Team, something that was not accurate. Had I been a member of the Team then a reasonable inference by the community reading my post would be that what I was writing was NWS approved. This is not the case of course and my only goal was to distance NWS from my opinions. That's all and I can some times be a bit pedantic in writing, sorry to cause a misunderstanding.
Enjoy SAI, I still play it regularly and have a couple of campaigns on the go at any one time.
Cheers,
-C
