Is it possible to develop a module that pushes the timeline early than 1900?Forexample from 1800 to 1900?

The game probably wouldn't be able to handle that for a host of reasons. I'm still hoping for an 1890 start date, but even that opens a huge can of worms.

OK....That is so bad.

Given the caliber of the developers... I do think an 1875 to 1900 game might eventually be possible (more likely 1885 to 1900)... it might only model some of the ships from that period though... for instance, it might be much easier for the AI if all ships were required to have screw propulsion.
There could also be simplifications: For instance, sails could be treated as (1) requiring more crew and deck space in return for (2) increased fuel economy and (3) increased speed when moving downwind. The sail area could be selected in the ship builder along with a the type of sail layout (which would impact crew requirements and would impact speed in the 'run' vs. 'reach'... i.e. how quickly the speed bonus drops off if you aren't sailing straight down wind but only slightly downwind).
An additional ship design screen would need several additional options: - An ability to select the type of gun (smoothbore vs. rifled options, solid vs. heated vs. modern rounds) - An ability to select the type of armour (thickness of wood backing, type of iron or steel used, number of layers)
One would also need to add an ability to fit ships with rams and for the AI to deliberate ram enemy ships sometimes.
But it should theoretically be doable.

As for mods ...could one not create a crude 1890 start?
The following could be done: Modify the gun tables to lower performance. Modify the speed tables to lower performance. Adjust the tech 'times' so that most techs become available later.

Adjust the tech 'times' so that most techs become available later. Couple of problems with that 1. Armor is hardcoded 2. Game won’t actually accept dates before 1900 3. I think the first ten years would just have 0 tech progression

1. We could weaken the guns... and only model pre-dreadnoughts with iron armour
2. We could ignore the fact that the dates are wrong
3. Probably

Basically, it comes down to the ship designer being mostly hardcoded, making it really hard to represent earlier ships. Making the predreadnought era last longer is definitely possible, and I'm looking into a steampunk mod. It is also very possible to make earlier era ships, as seen in my 1900 mod, which has broadside ironclads and sail era frigates. However, it is nearly impossible to make anything earlier than 1900 playable because the ship designer can't really be updated.
This isn't to discourage anyone from trying, its just why I won't be attempting anything like that

At some point in the future, we might possibly consider an expansion going back to 1890. But I do not see the game engine handling naval combat before that very well.
There are some games covering the ironclad age already, not to mention the age of sail. Just curious, are they not good enough?

Ironclads isn't great. It is too simplistic and doesn't give you any directions on how to actually play the game.
