I've actually lost a 16,000t cruiser to a 9" belt pen at ~20,000+ yards (edge of gun range) at ~30* acute angle. I was wondering how it was possible. 6" inclined belt should be proof against that at most ranges. Seems to completely ignore armor thickness.
Using AON armor type... I think you are onto something.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the belt number in RtW meant to represent the thickest part of an early British-style incremental/tapered armour scheme, and thus a portion of your vitals are covered by less than what the number says?

charliezuluAs far as I understand it, in the log entries B* always means the full belt was penetrated. If it were otherwise it would say BE* for belt extended, or note fore/aft hull and superstructure hits as such. In my example I was using all-or-nothing armor so if it hit the belt it should be full thickness. I also have noticed my issue with hull hits apply in many different situations now that I am more aware of it, for example 4in shells penetrated 6in CA armor at 9kyd and other silliness, so I am 95% sure it is a bug.

I'm not saying its the best way to do things lol. I was just saying that's a possible reason the devs have done it this way. That's it, nothing more

Sort of. Even with AoN, belt armour thickness isn't uniform and tapers off. However, that is the reason for the modified pen roll, which I always thought was capped at +20%. The likely issues are: *The pen mod roll is higher than 20% *There is an effect we are not aware of *There's an error in the calculation As it happens, there is a bug report for a 4" shell penetrating 10" turret amour, so this may be a larger issue than first thought.
