Still been playing on my first playthrough, now in March 1936, and after ending my turn it gives me the error message: "Illegal speed/displacement combination!" and I'm forced to taskmanager the game. Happens after every next turn now. I cannot advance any further.

Either use 7.zip to post here directly or host the file somewhere like google drives and post a link so others can take a peek.

sirion , what game version are you on? And does the 'Illegal speed/displacement' message mention a ship class or ship name?

No idea what version, as I'm just playing the game for about one week, so likely the most recent version. And no, it doesn't say anything else than "Illegal speed/displacement combination!" I can spam OK whatever I want but it keeps coming back the second I hit OK, so I have to taskmanager it. Screenshot: gyazo.com/e6c1dabca9ca489c4d60068c0b0d0ae0

sirion Look at top left corner (see screenshot) for the game version. It seems from the save you have probably 1.00 version of the game. You can download patch 1.18 from this page. The game really advanced from 1.00 version and a lot of bugs have been already solved. If the bug remains in 1.18, let us know.

I am on it! Thanks for the save! The AI is trying to design a ship that is too fast. Will get this fixed for the next update, which will be out very soon.
Edit: It seems from your save you might have edited your designs or modded the game somehow? If that is so, it is helpful to know that.

It is quite often if one of my ship classes exceeds the allowed limit (for example a BB designed for 30knt and gets the extra 1 knt by surpassing the designed speed) - or if I edit the ship class and make it faster than it should - then the AI tries to built ships above the allowed limit and this message appears quite often. The ships the AI tries to design are discarded and not allowed to be built, but the AI returns back and tries again and again and again so once you have gone this path (modifying your ships to make them very fast) you can never return back. Even if you return your ships to their allowed speed, the AI will continue trying to built illegally fast ships and you shall be getting this annoying message quite often. It does not brake the game but trust me, it can brake your nerves every 1-2-3 rounds to have to click a lot of times to make this message disappear and continue with your game.

Indeed I've made some edits as to see what happens, but I didn't know the AI "follows" my designs??

The AI will look at your designs (well, any that is has intel/knowledge of at least), it can use that info to attempt to make changes to match or exceed your (or other enemy) capabilities if it can.

Still kinda **** that even if I already have the maximum speed I can get on a ship, the AI tries to outdo that, but the game bugs out (literally) as it seems that's not possible.

The updates have been produced and released in the (almost) one year since was released last May, 2019. All updates are cumulative, so when someone purchases the game only the latest update is required to bring the game up to the current version.

When you purchase the game you do not get the latest version but the version stored in the shop. So after purchasing it you should check here in the forum to get the latest update. The game exists more than a year, so 18 updates are not so much extreme to have occurred in 13-14 months.
