Playing a game as Germany in 1935 I got involved in a war against the Soviet Union.
In all the scenarios happening in the Baltic Sea where german battleships participate
they invariably begin their moves on top of a coastal battery in the midst of the sea (just east of Gotland)
- resulting in much collision damage and flooding, blocked ruddders or knocked out radars from battery gunfire
- before I am allowed or able to do anything about it.
Clicking on this fiendish battery it says it´s a german coastal battery - and indeed - after having demolished the whole german battlefleet - it begins to shoot at any russian ships approaching it.

Hello plattfuss - We will look at this issue, thanks (I assume you are using game version 1.18?).
If you have a save game that shows this issue that might be a help to track it down...you can use 7Zip and compress the entire game save folder and post it here, or post it to a file sharing/cloud site and post the link here. Thanks!

Have looked at this but we need more input, preferably a save. Have you modded the game in any way?

I am absolutely amazed of this fast and dedicated reaction. This is absolutely great! Here is a wetransfer-link which should work: we.tl/t-WdUTmx8a1rIt´s a link to the whole game folder (i.e. the actual game)
and to a former scenario file (.sac) of the same game
which happened some turns earlier and which I deleted (to be able to restart the game again before this scenario happened).
In this scenario file my battleships start on top of said coastal battery. In the actual game folder my battleships start on top of a russian torpedo boat resulting in massive collision damage and multiple torpedo hits.... (man...this game hates us germans.... ...

Thanks for the save! It is the entire save directory that is needed.
I can see the problem in your save. However, I do not see it appearing again, even after running a number of battles with battleships in the Baltic from your save. Do you mean this occurs every battleship battle for you? Have you modded any game files?

Thank you for the fast reply. The game is not modded.
I can only tell you about some coincidences:
When it happens...
- the scenario starts in the middle of Africa and I have to move the map back to the Baltic
- it happens when the german battleships begin their move somewhere in the east of Gotland (in any other scenario setting nothing strange occurs)
- it happens always to one ship of a two-battleship division
- and in this game it happened in three cases (I normally delete the scenario file and keep on playing, hoping that the scenario editor produces another setting for the turn - which until now worked).

Ah...and i remember playing Chin-China some months ago, when a chinese two-battleship-division got a bloody nose when it "landed" on a hostile airbase in the sea....but that was with version 1.17.

I am terribly sorry but I feel there might be definitely something wrong.
After having updated to 1.19 and now 1.20 I resumed my game as Germany and now a cruiser force landed on a coastal battery in the sea again.
As I am having this problem quite often now in just this game I (without any deeper knowledge) presume it might be an error which is persistent after occuring once.
Please let me add that I myself do not regard it as a big thing - the game is so much fun that I just delete those scenarios with broken beginnings.
But as the bug is persistent in THIS game it may be the result of my deleting scenarios - hence forcing the game to restart in campaign modus.
Be it as it may I am fully aware that you have your hands full with just enough other work and regarding myself it as a minor problem I´d like to stress the point that I posted this here just out of curiosity.
And I´d like once again to thank you for your great work.

You don't have to be sorry to report a bug. We will continue to try to find out what might be wrong.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying the game!
