No problem, most of the carriers do not have those eight inch disasters waiting to happen. Here is my latest carrier design. Unfortunately, the treaty limitations makes this impossible to build, but I designed it anyway.

The tech is currently inactive AHA, you were fooling the old guy. Anyway, my game as CSA is over with three victories over the French and the biggest loss was one light cruiser and three destroyers. The French lost over five battlecruisers and host of other ships. The ship design was great.

The angled decks can still look pretty.
Orginally for structure reasons the lifts were in the center of ships. The machinery is heavy so having it on the center line is easier on stability.
Not modelled in the game and not necessarily ever built is the possibility of "offset decks". Using side deck lifts all on the same side as the control tower that would leave the other side and center free of elevators. There is the risk of mechanical failures or damage to elevators leaving them in the wrong position. The clear one-side-and-center means this can never happen.
>>>
On Frankenstien's rear turrets the "tadpole" idea is to have decent guns to shoot as the carrier flees from a battle. This is more needed in rule the waves where limitations on control can send the carriers into wierd situations. For instance turning into the wind while bumping into a coast meaning an enemy can actually catch up. There is also the early fleet tactics where the CV/CVL are attached to the main battle formation so never sail too far away making it possible for a sudden shift in the battle or wind direction to bring fast enemies near the CV. These things aren't recalled at all/much in the real world making this more of a tactical adaptation to the game's universe.
My battle experience suggests very heavy BC grades 12" and up aren't really that useful as you will never beat up a BC anyway. The 8" to 10" tadpole guns can mess up light cruisers during a running battle and might slow a CA to the point it won't catch up or take long enough for friendlies to come to the rescue.

Airwing size of 177 aircraft. 2 inch flight deck and 2 inch hangar sides. 33 knot speed, 73 medium AA guns, 29 light AA guns. What no Colonial service? A platoon or two of airborne raiders with transport planes or helicopters to conduct raids like stealing the enemy's donut fryers. >>> No defensive guns? A few 3in or 4in could be present for signalling and launching celebration star shells.

ASK and I shall provide- the CSA Seven Days - an updated Sharpsburg. Sharpsburg was scrapped and replaced by this design. - She now have four 5 inch guns and is long range. She has lost one knot of speed. I ain't finished yet, my next one will be over 100,000 tons.... hopefully.

Here is a new concept ship - The CSA Braxton Bragg - The game will not allow this kind of design but the General Board loves it. Maybe the team will view this and changed the game.

I wanted to run a suggestion by the forum members. I would like to see a concept ship design capability in the design ship program in the game. You could call the ship anything, like flight deck cruiser, build it and then add it to a theoretical fleet and use it in fleet exercises for testing. It would never be actually built, it would just be conceptual like the Naval War College games and the General Board.
I would like to hear ideas, before I put the idea into the suggestion forum.
Thanks

Another concept design authorized by the General Board. This is the CSA Pamlico Flight Deck Cruiser. She does 31 knots, four 8 inch guns forward, plenty of medium and light AA guns. She can carry 19 aircraft with a deck park and two aft catapults. She has a four inch belt, long range, but no deck armor. Today, later, I am going to reproduce this ship and play with the drawing. I am not very good but I will try. If anyone wants to build the flight deck aft, go for it. All my designs are for the forum members.

I went ahead and modified the previous design for a Flying Deck cruiser. I drew a flight deck on the stern and put in stacks. Conning Tower is to come with next design, be patient. I need to add a gun director for the main guns on the next design. Designing ships is a gradual process like aircraft.

I could sure use some help drawing the superstructures properly. Where is the explanation for this procedure.
