Hello, I'm in the middle of my first invasion battle and I would be close to winning it if my Transports hadn't suddenly decided to go south instead of east and are now moving further and further away from the target. Do they have some kind of "intelligence" making them believe they have to evade the enemy? But even so my fleet is between them and the enemy - shielding them - so all they have to do is to get to the target as soon as possible. Another annoyance is that my battleships seem to prefer fire HE at enemy battleships until they run low, even though AP would penetrate, while the CA who has no chance of penetrating their main armor does fire ap - shouldn't that be the other way around?

Check your shell preferences in the "Doctrines" area, it would seem that this may have been modified.
Having said that, it also depends on the range, HE is the default ammo at longer ranges with AP reserved for when things get up-close and personal.

And why - what's wrong with a nice plunging AP round (not in 1906 though)? Fighting range in both cases was 7-9km with a max gun range of ~11km for the B. The CA has smaller guns (so less range). The target was the exact same ship class (10" belt) which my B can pen at up to 10km and the CA never (max pen is ~8.5"). Anyway it did work out in the end. But shouldn't there a manual ammo selection - at least in captain's mode?

If you don't have enough deck penetration, that plunging AP round just splats on the deck, and if it's going to splat anyways, then you may as well use an HE round and get a bigger splat: you won't pierce the armor, but maybe you'll pop a few more rivets.

PS, general recommendation is one thread per bug report. AS you can see there is chatter about the BB guns but the topic was original set to talk about invasion ships. Most programmers prefer the one thread per bug as it works well with them entering it in tracking-management software too.
