I was assigned an invasion transport escort mission to invade Sardinia. The transports started north of Algeria.
The game objectives were "Reach objective with 4 TR 60000 VP". The objectrive was a double circle west of Sardinia.
I have two issues:
1) my transports were never stopped, and they travelled at max speed yet never reached the objective. At game end (14 hours) I could read: "Reach objective with 4 TR 60000 Failed"
How could I win ? Was this impossible ? The AI controlled the transports, yet they never reached the objective. At game end they were about 40 km from the objective.
Or should my flagship have reached it ?
2) at one point during the night, while my battlefleet was battling the enemy, my flagship lost sight of my transports. I lost their location.
I found them again in the morning. Is this realistic, really ? In reality, the Admiralty would have kept me informed of the transports' location by radio.
Thanks. Enjoying this game a lot.
Here is the final map of the scenario. The thin red track is my transports' track. They ran at 8 kts for the full 14 hours. The small red dot off Sardinia's NW coast if the objective it could not reach.

1) While I haven't experienced that in particular, I have had similar things, like a raid on an enemy convoy where, even running my DDs at full speed, they were inside the minefield surrounding an enemy port and out of range of my guns before I could get there. Although I think the devs fixed that, so that might be something they look at in the battle generator.
2) That is probably realistic (and is intentional in the design). It can also happen with your warships which get separated/detached. AFAIK it was standard procedure to maintain radio silence during combat operations, as enemies could pick up transmissions and possibly pinpoint their location. When Bismarck sortied it was supposed to be under radio silence, and the transmission Lutjens made after sinking Hood helped the British narrow down her position, if I recall correctly. So your transports were probably keeping radio silence to prevent them from being found and attacked by the enemy, You'd know the rough course, but they likely wouldn't be reporting back exact positions unless they were under attack - which would be represented by spotting reports.

By around 1944 the USN had largely replaced the traditional flag communication system with TBS (Talk Between Ships) radio transmissions. The very high frequency radio signals used for the system were normally restricted to ships within line of sight and so allowed for more detailed maneuver instructions, as well as other vital communication that was difficult, time consuming and subject to miscommunication when using flag signals. The transmissions were also immediate and could be broadcast to several ships at once and were not normally affected by adverse weather conditions or night.
This transition allowed the impressive simultaneous formation maneuvers that were a characteristic of the late war American carrier task forces. TBS allowed the entire task force to maneuver as a single unit. It also allowed ships to close the distance, especially during aerial attacks. Late war distances between ships were reduced to half or less of the distances required before the advent of TBS. This had the effect of substantially improving the effectiveness of the task force's combined AA fire.
Of course, everything was not as rosy as thought at the time. It was later found that TBS signals, like any radio signal, could, under the right conditions, travel much further than expected. Sometimes these signals could be heard over a distance of 1,000 nm. Nevertheless, the TBS system transformed inter-ship communications in the USN and significantly improved both formation keeping and anti-aircraft defenses. TBS soon spread throughout the fleet and was even used by convoy escorts.
Unfortunately, this revolutionary improvement in communication is not well represented in the game at this point.

Very interesting. Thank you. Never read about this before.
You could add this to the tech tree, in the Fleet Tactics category ? This could add an AA Defence Bonus.
though one problem is that it might make some saved games unusable.

Regarding the first issue, that is objectives which are impossible to reach given transport max speed, this looks like a bug.
So I'll copy my text in the bug section so it won't be forgotten.
