What about adding really high quality guns late game? Things like Scharnhorsts 11" guns, Des Moines 8" guns, or Tigers 6" guns

I would like to see a bit more variance in gun quality, especially as you can get Q1 guns pretty early in the game. It’s a bit odd to know those 6” guns you developed before 1910 will be exactly what you’re using until the 1950s...

I would also like to see barrel length as well. Right now this is intermixed into the quality.

Yes: I don't want to necro post but I also don't want to make a duplicate post agreeing wholeheartedly with the idea! Though I am quite new to naval matters no doubt, I'm surprised coming from RTW1 that Gun Quality is still limited to 1 even though the end date advances a generation.
Having the option to advance gun quality further... even to mod the rate of gun research such as with other technologies... seems to be a massive potential improvement. It is an aspect of the game Ultimate Admirals that is very interesting to me -- having many gun technology tiers for a given calibre.

I watch a lot of Stealthgaming Ultimate Admiral videos - watching his design process is really interesting to me. Kind of like watching Kerbal Space by Scott Manley...
Anyway - guns need some additional love in RTW2. I would love to see a few additional quality ratings, but also things like gun weight and turret rotation speed along with different turret designs impacting rate of fire. Historically the USA went with a 5"/38 as the standard heavy DP gun, its shorter barrel increased rotation / tracking speed allowing it to engage aircraft effectively, while still being long enough to effectively engage ships at range. Other shorter barrled guns lacked the power to penetrate armor at range, while longer guns weighed more and had trouble tracking AC. A good video on this is at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZqMqhUnVMU.
As such it seems a bit weird to me that a 6" Q whatever acts the same on a DD, CL, CA, BC, BB in DP or single purpose mountings. General examples follow - DD's often have exposed shield mounts, CL and CA might have them in double, triple or quad main gun mounts with 3" or more inches of armor and the BC and BBs often have them in double or triple secondary turrets with 1" to 3" of armor. Ideally I would like to see Q-1 and or Q0 get weighted to benefit the AA value. Lighter / lower quality 8"+ guns might make sense on colonial duty / convoy escort / raider CA's or BC's for example. I would think additional armor on the turret would slow the turret rotation and possibly impact rate of fire; at least compared to shield turrets... Although shielded and casemated guns should have worse ROF and accuracy penalties for rougher weather compared to turreted guns.
I'm pretty sure casemated guns get swamped by rough weather in game (ROF and accuracy penalties); but I would like to see an event for the exposed gun crews being washed overboard in rough weather with ships going as fast as the weather permits - something like: "gun crew cut-down by wave"...
