My current campaign has a ridiculous series of wars from a roleplaying perspective. As the Americans, at least twice I have gone to war with the British and started to take over New Brunswick unopposed. Then, right when I was on the brink of consolidating my conquest, Congress signed a treaty over my objections (which seems to be running theme here) which barely covered the colony value I was about to reap from Canada. So, since abstract points are better than concrete colony points, both times I refused to take any territory, especially anything in Canada, which I could just take over in the next war anyway.
But it must have seemed pretty ridiculous to the soldiers who had to evacuate New Brunswick twice even though they didn't have any opposition, because the British promised to send over barrels full of gold instead.
