So I know submarines sometimes spawn into battles, and on rare occasions I even get reports about one of my escorts spotting/attacking/sinking a submarine. But this is the first time I've actually seen a submarine doing its own thing, all by itself, without being anywhere near the battle. Twice during my most recent battle, I was interrupted by a torpedo hit message for a transport ship that was nowhere near the battle. I was quite confused at the time, but afterwards I checked the results and both events were submarines torpedoing transports. Very cool!

I had a game a while ago where my newest CA and a few escorts went to raid the coast of an Italian colony. An hour or so into the scenario I got a radio report that a sub of mine had torpedoed an enemy TR. Okay, that's kinda cool. The scenario played out without anything of note happening. At the end I checked to see whether the merchant the sub had torpedoed had sunk. And that's when I found out it wasn't a merchant. It was a fleet carrier, that held enough bombers to sink my entire raiding force. The torpedo hit had left it unable to conduct air operations and thus saved my entire force.
