July 1901.
We have signed a co-operation treaty with Italy.
Our arms companies are also selling 14" guns. Maybe we can use them on our future ships?

October 1901.
The Navy League says our armoured cruisers aren't good enough, so I hope the new Drake class will satisfy them:

April 1902.
We are building 4 Drakes.
One of our shipyards offers to build another at a 10% discount. Yes! I always like a bargain!

Note: at some point I am going to get into a situation where I can't replicate an actual RN design, or where such a replication wouldn't make sense in the game.
For example, this game's version of Dreadnought or Invincible might have different specs the real-life ships of those names. But they will be similar in intent. I.e. for Dreadnought an all-big-gun battleship intended to outmatch all existing battleships, fight at longer ranges, and be faster than them. And for Invincible, similarly a ship to beat all armoured cruisers, be more heavily armed than them, with an all-big-gun armament and high speed.
So that means i will need to ask myself; what were the original ddesigners optimising for in the design of this ship? What were its expected roles? Was it a response to a particular enemy ship? and similar questions.

Now the Drake-class CAs are finishing, we can order some new battleships. The King Edward VII class have a heavier secondary armament of 4x9" guns.

Now we have 5 King Edward VII battleships under construction, it's time for some Topaze-class light cruisers. Historically 4 were built so I plan to replicate that.

We now have steam turbines! our next generation of ships will use them as they are a great advance over triple expansion engines. They promise more speed.

August 1905
A disarmament conference was held at The Hague, with inconclusive results.
Now we have better guns, better torpedo protection, stream turbines and better fire control 9central firing) we can develop a battleship of a new type, the Dreadnought, better than anything Germany has! Dreadnought will be built as fast as possible, and we also plan a Dreadnought-type armoured cruiser.
This will take the wind out of their sails.

A revised design for a Dreadnought-type battleship allows us to fit in two more turrets. We're calling this the Bellerophon. If we mothball or put in reserve some older ships, we can build both!

April 1906
Tensions are rising between our ally Italy and France. We have assured Italy we will support them.
Our spies report that France and Germany are building their own Dreadnought-type ships, though not as large as ours.
Maybe there will be a war soon?
