Having played Rule the waves, I was much impressed so I was wondering about the SAI-RJW game.
1) As far as the random battle generator etc goes, what ships are available? Is 1905 the furthest extent? (eg: is the Tsukuba class included for hypotethical battles?) 2) Does the game include a ship editor?

The battle generator offers eight different combinations including two Anglo-French, three Russo-Japanese, one Anglo-German, one USA-Japan and one USA-Spain. The OOB for all of the belligerents is pretty complete for the period 1895 through about 1906. Battle generator files can be edited to taste and new combinations are pretty straightforward to create using a text editor. For Japan, the stock designs end at the Kashima class (1905) but you can add most any warship using the ship design utility (DesignShip2) that is included with the game. SAI-RJW includes the Russo-Japanese War campaign executable, scenario editor and a campaign editor is available for free download.
Be advised that ships designed using DesignShip2 and used in SAI-RTW are NOT compatible with Rule the Waves and vice versa.
There are subtle differences between SAI-RJW and SAI-TGWAS in gunnery, how the AI behaves, ammunition selection and armour/hits effects to represent the poorer quality of AP ammunition and the much greater prevalence of high explosive shells used in the pre-dreadnought period. Swapping designs between SAI-RJW and SAI-TGWAS might produce unexpected results for this and other reasons and is not recommended or supported.
Thanks.

Thanks for the helpfull reply. I played a lot of Sino-Japanese war and some hypotethical 1900s south american conflict naval wargames with my friends, hence I'm wondering if these sorts of engagements can be simulated by the engine.
Seems so, I'll consider buying the RJW at the end of the month (or getting it as a gift).

Thanks. Fair disclosure as the game was never intended to model 19th Century operations, due to the way SAI measures time there is a bug in the game that results in time running backwards and the sun rising in the west in scenarios before 0000 hours 01 January 1900. Users of the old computer Harpoon-2 should be familiar with that phenomenon but in the battle games it makes little practical difference. There is a scenario for the Sino-Japanese Battle of the Yalu (1894) and an Austro-Italian battle generator available for SAI-RTW to be found here. Most of the warships of the Qing China fleet are included in the stock game. nws-online.proboards.com/thread/30/sai-scenarios-threadHope that you enjoy the game.

Ok, got the game enjoying it. I've made my own Japanese and Chinese 1894 oob and random battle generator. Still testing it out, but hope to release it next week. The generator seems to give everyone "normal" skill crews and suddenly the chinese fleet proves to be a rather difficult opponent, especially the Jīngyuǎn and Zhìyuàn crusiers can give the Matsushima a run for her money.
