Is it possible to alter the map?
I'd like to create a mod where Atlantis exists. In this mod, the Azores are discovered by the Portuguese in 1427, as happened historically, but the captain of the ship discovering them names the discovery Atlantis. The islands are also a lot bigger in thids timeline; about the size of Ireland and Iceland put together. Anyway, history chugs along in this timeline much the same. By 1899 the Kingdom of Atlantis contains Atlantis, Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique and East Timor. In that year Atlantis gets into a dispute with Britain (historically this happened in 1890, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1890_British_Ultimatum ) after which the Atlanteans decide to build up their navy. Fortunately they are able to do so, as they have recently discovered iron ore, coal and oil deposits in the Atlantean Mountains and are awash with money and busily induistrialising.
So is changing the map possible?

Seems like a fun premise! AFAIK you can do it with some alterations to the worldmap file, but you would have to download the new worldmap and replace the old one whenever you want to reinstall or deinstall the mod.

Changing the appearance of the game map is not possible as far as I am aware, but it would be possible to add Atlantis as a new possession via the MapData file. Adding Atlantis as a custom nation is also possible, but you would need to create a Nation file, a WarInfo file, and a ShipNames file for it. You can refer to the CSA, Spain, and China custom nations included in the base game for examples of these.
