Hello there Recently got RTW2, years ago I used to play RTW a lot. I have a silly problem, the title says it all - how do I command ships in battle. Essentially what happens is, the battles start, I get to see my fleet and start/pause action and everything, but I cannot figure out how to actually issue commands to my fleet. Like basic stuff, move, fire, pick a target, launch aircraft? So it's basically just watching the action for me. What the hell am I missing? I must be stupid or something. Also, one other thing that's been bugging me...is there an "options" menu where I can scale difficulty level (easy/normal/ hard etc.)? I also cannot find it anywhere...

First, set the level of microcontrol you want to take over. Captain's mode is where you have the most individual influence, down to launching torpedoes. To issue a move order, selcet your division (the ones you can control have a red square flag, the one selected has a yellow square, divisions under AI control have red triangles), then shift click. You can also hit the red cursor icon in the bottom left of the screen, then click on where you want to move. You can also set a course and speed in the bottom left corner. To fire on another ship/ division, click the crosshairs. Holding fire can be ordered in a divisions detail view, either right click on the division flag or go via the Order of battle tab. For anything aircraft related, there's a wonderful sticky thread up in the forum that expöains those mechanics in sufficient detail! Hope that helps a bit and good luck ruling those waves

Where exactly do I select these options? There is no "option" menu anywhere... Click the "Preferences" button; the settings to which lucur refers are grouped in the upper right corner of the menu as the "Realism setting." Note that the game defaults to Rear Admiral's mode, which lets you command divisions within sight of the flagship; if that's enough for what you want to do, then you should not need to change the setting. Also be aware that Rear Admiral's and Captain's modes carry VP penalties as they are easier than Admiral's mode, in which you can only directly command the flagship of each force.
