Just want to say how pleasant of a surprise it was to come back to play some Rule the Waves 2 and see this expansion news! Thank you Fredrick and team for such a wonderful game and your continued dedication to supporting it!

Yeah, I have forgot about this game for about a month and now with the comment from the dev team about the upcoming AI wars I see the RtW became relevant again.

If there are gonna be AI wars, any chance of simulating actual battles between the AIs, rather than just the "random KE was sunk in a battle between these two nations!" events that we have now? I wouldn't mind if game has to take a bit of time between turns to simulate battles between AIs in the background. If we could, at our option, spectate those battles that'd be even better, but that last part's probably a pipe dream.

I know this is just me liking to see how far I can push this game, but why not ironclads versus missile cruisers? Just a thought That's just silly. This is a serious game. You could do it anyway just by keeping your 1890 ships until the 1960s

Are you still forced to design your own ships and will there be scenarios where the ships are built already? Ahem, that is the point of the game.

SAM sytems, and the reactions to their presence, are being worked on in the Expansion so expect some improvements with regards to those aspects. I found out today that the first "Missile" launched from a carrier aircraft was actually from a flight of F6Fs off USS Boxer, 28 August 1952
The thread and screenshot here: show a 1951 single medium SAM launcher reloading in less than 1 minute, and scoring up to 3 kills in a single minute.
Seems like some work is definitely needed.

Pretty sure thats rather slow for a twin arm launcher www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4zfsN4Ndd8here is a single arm launcher reloading in less than 10 seconds This single arm launcher is from 1960 The talos (2 heavy SAM/SSM missiles) can reload 2 missiles in less than 20 seconds and is from 1955

It wasn't the reload time that was an issue, it was the time it took the missile to reach its target. Most early systems could only direct one, or at the most, two missiles at a time.
I would consider three kills in a minute a bug. There is at least one instance of a single missile taking out two aircraft, but even that occurs far too often in the game.

Adams class DDG's in the USN had only two illuminators on the back island (SPG-51's IIRC). In the German Navy we modified them into the Z103 class from the start in the 1960's. Next to Littoral capable sonar and a cruiser's C2 capability the first AAW mod was to exchange the forward fire control radar (gun exclusively in the USN) to accept a third illuminator, also providing 360° illumination capability.
And you could (later on) have more than one SAM in the air per illumination channel, just not in end acquisition.
That written, would be nice if we, like for directors and AAW directors, could get the number of illuminators modelled, either as a separate number or included in the AAW director count.

Yeah hard agree i dont mind heavy SAMs having collateral kills on torpedo or dive bombers as they could have pretty close formations and heavy sams large warheads but on light/medium SAM it should be very rare for a double kill

SAM systems are undergoing major changes in the Expansion, as those are finalized I will post updates as to what they are.

And more about my earlier suggestions concerning auxillary fleet train vessels: it seems that some foundations for them even exist in-game already - I have received notifications of random coal lighter sinkings by enemy submarines and mines in-game. Also, during retirement, if the prestige is extra low, there is a possibility of naming a coal lighter after player's admiral.
