I've recently installed RTW2 on a new PC and am running into issues trying to get it to play. When I click on the RTW2.exe file, the registration screen pops open for a second, then closes, and the exe file is deleted. I am aware that this issue has been mentioned on this board in the past, with the resolution being to whitelist the exe or disable one's antivirus. Unfortunately, combinations of both those steps have not resolved my issue - i still run into it with Mcaffe real time scanning and firewall disabled, with the exe file added to the Mcaffe whitelist, and with the file run as administrator. I've tried multiple fresh installs with the RTW2 installer but without much luck. I was hoping that someone in the community might have come across this issue before (where the common resolution steps dont work), and could provide me with some much appreciated advice?
For reference, im using a windows 10 PC and have the McAfee LiveSafe antivirus.

I have contacted McAfee and reported this false positive, apparently to no avail so far. If you don't mind, it might help for you to directly report this to them, using the following template - the subject line and the address needs to be exactly correct or they will ignore the email, and please substitute your product details for the example ones listed below.
To: virus_research@avertlabs.com Subject: FALSE: file detected by McAfee. Email body text:
Could you please check the attached file, as it is a false detection. Here are my product details:
Product: McAfee Security Center 16.0 Engine: 3181.0 Description of issue: This file has been detected as malware, but is one of the files needed for my game to run.

I recently (as in the last 7 days) installed a 2nd copy of RtW2 onto a new Dell Inspiron 5391 laptop, running Windows 10 Home edition, ver 20H2. It also has McAfee Live Safe installed on it. I had no issues with either installing, activating or running the package. The version of McAfee I have is: Live Safe v 16.0 McAfee Security Center Affid 105-1748 Build 19.0.160 Language en-us Last Update 03/03/21 Version 19.0
If it is of any help, the procedure I followed was as follows. Copy the two install files into a temporary directory I use called C:\Temp (That's RTW2 v100.exe and RTW2 v1.24 Update.exe) In file manager, right click on each of these two files and check thier properties. They will probably be labelled as "This file came from another computer and might be blocked ......." tick the unblock box and apply it. Then run the installation, but I didn't allow it to install to the defult location. I changed it to C:\Games\NWS\RtW2 then allow the installation to continue. As soon as the initial installation has completed, run the 1.24 update, which will locate and update the initial version.
Running the game from the desktop icon then worked without any problem. It may be worth adding that I am currently using the default user account that came with the pc, and which has admin rights. I usually setup another non-admin account for normal activities, but have not done that as yet. It may also be worth running the newly installed and patched game in "evaluation mode" for a day, just to ensure you don't have any problems following a reboot etc. Then if all is well, proceed to activate the game in the usual way.
I hope this helps.

williammiller , thanks for the advice, i will contact McAfee. Similarly, thanks for your contribution stingray , unfortunately repeating your steps has not worked on my pc (Im not getting the "this file came from another computer" checkbox). Im using the same Mcafee version as you, so it suprises me that were getting different results - makes me wonder if possibly some other process is deleteing the exes. Ah well, another one of lifes great mysteries.

On that note williammiller, my gmail wont actually allow me to attach the file in my email to mcafee because its picking it up as a virus - did you run into similar issues when you made your submission?

No, I didn't have any issues with my submission (other than them apparently not clearing it properly). TBH I've never liked McAfee's AV engine/system, I have seen a number of folks having significant issues with it in the past. BTW, many AV companies require you zip and encrypt a file submitted via email, that way it will not be falsely detected at any point in its sending...why McAfee does not do that I have no idea.
I am away from my PC right now, but there may be a web portal to submit a file/false positive so you might do a quick search to see if there is any way other than email to submit it...I will check myself when I am back at my computer.
Thanks.
