I'm having trouble with two more bugs.
1. When reassigning ships to Sqs, the popup to choose which has two flaws.
a. It gets cluttered with lines which are not actually divisions. Currently, I get 3 lines that shouldn't be there. Two are DDs currently under repair (at an otherwise empty base) after combat. The 3rd is a ML (Naiad) which is already part of a Sq. I tried to see what would happen if I chose one, and it created a new Sq, named after the ship, at the described location. This makes no sense, and as the campaign goes on, it ends up cluttering the box with more false lines than valid ones.
b. Sometimes perfectly valid Sqs are NOT listed. E.g., a BB Sq/Div is missing. Sometimes you can add a BB to the Br 3rd BS, sometimes not. (Dreadnought actually was added during the war, so it should be possible.)
2. Sometimes, especially when using Emergency Activation, the status assigned doesn't work right. This takes several forms:
a. Usually, whatever status you assigned when activating gets ignored, and all or many of the ships are set as Ind. I am NOT referring to the cases where I erred in setting two cores to one Sq. (I get that case.)
b. Sometimes (and this happens with regular activation, too, but rarely) it simply will not let me pick the leading Flag Sq, but keeps setting that to AI control. In one case, despite there being 4 BB Sqs to choose from, it insisted on making a CL Sq the flag. This is fairly common with Emergency Activation. I don't get why we cannot just pick our flagships. I get that you cannot pick a DD Flot when there are other Sq types in the force, but that's not what I'm talking about.
c. Even after laboriously going through and re-assigning status, when they start to move, they will often just reset to Ind, for no discernable reason. I've had this happen 5 times in one turn while trying to get out of Scapa. The only semi-workaround is to run 5 minutes at a time, then check and go back to redo everything. Again, this makes no sense.
d. Related to the above, it sometimes results in one or more Sqs getting "trapped" in a bay in the Orkneys (or some other place), and never joining. One time the whole GF except the Flag Div did so. OK, now I know to be careful (see "c" above). It's a real pain if there's a battle going on.
What, if any, ways are there to work around this? Frankly, I really like the conception of the game, but the execution is VERY buggy.
On the positive side, I've finally gotten DDs to work more or less as I wanted. But I still find that RN CL's of the Arethusa/C type rarely fire torpedoes. I suspect this is an oversimplification of doctrine, as most CLs weren't so used. But these (and the Ds, and Es if you add them) were quite explicitly so intended. That's why they had deck tubes. I suspect what's needed is for CLs with deck tubes act like DDs at such times.
EDIT: I'll add another under part 2. I often get popups saying a unit has more than one core, when it simply does not. I am just now looking at one, and the OB listed does not say what the popup claims. This is just a glitch.
