Seriously SAMs Crikey So the screen shot of the logs is from a story that began as we are all too horribly familiar with a lone battleship escorted by a single division of destroyers tasked with a bombardment mission against Italy and no way to complete and get home before day break. To make matters worse all the destroyers were of my 'gun type' as I had wanted something for dealing enemy destroyers while my DDGs are optimised for air defence. While I was hoping for the usual mixing of types it was not to be. Luckily my battleship Anson was of the Victorious class which had proven to have the tonnage and space for a single SAM launcher to be installed. So I gave the mission a whirl thinking it can only end badly and to my rather complete surprise SAMs they are super effective. Basically the long and short of it was that having SAMs in my mix and not even on every ship doubled the destructive effect of my air defence and did who knows what to the disruptive effect. Having a good fighter force is still crucial but SAMs really changed my experience of absolutely suicide missions going into two campaigns now. Anyone else have any good or bad SAM stories? Have they worked for you are failed miserably. Having experienced them prior to my two most recent campaigns only the receiving end of German ones to know others thoughts on their impact on the, very, late game dynamic.

No screenshots, I'm afraid but I love having SAM'S on my fleet destroyers. I drop a turret and add one of those beauties and planes start falling out of the sky. And because you spawn in a lot more destroyers than larger vessels, I've had 36 SAMs all engaging a strike at once. Almost every single attacking plane was shot down. All with 0 CAP (don't ask).
