This is more of a question that might lead to a suggestion.
The original ship limits for the canal were 32.2 meters in beam, draft was 12 meters and length was 294.1 meters. This would be 105.643 in feet, 39 feet in draught, and 964.567 in length. Now, does the game take this into account after the construction date of August 15,1914? If it doesn't, can this be included in the game. It was a serious qualifier for the building of US warships.

Not as familiar with the Suez Canal as the Panama Canal but does this also apply to that or can also be included?

I believe that there were limitations for the Suez Canal besides speed. when it first opened in 1869, the depth of water was only 26 feet. I don't believe that the Suez had the same limitations except you could only sail ships in single file in both directions due to width.

With the Panama Canal, the absolute largest warship you could squeeze in would be an Iowa Class Battleship. However with the Suez Canal, were it not for the Suez Canal Bridge, you could send a USN Supercarrier down it no problem because the Suez Canal has no locks.

I suspect the game is entirely tonnage based with no other sizes applied.

IIRC, there is some element of the code that generates belt lengths/deck areas for ships so that it can assign appropriate weights; however, I'm pretty sure they're fairly inaccurate and you couldn't work back from them to get dimensions. That said, to answer the original question, you can send whatever you want down the Panama Canal iirc. I've never been stopped by it.

Since many USN wargames revolved around the risk of an enemy attack blocking the Panama Canal for an extended period of time, this would be a very special bombardment target to add to the map.
