These next several pages are some pieces of "Warships of the World 1900" that slipped through a time shredder and turned up here somehow...
OK, it's taken from the RN's cunning network of Naval Attaches and the not-spies-at-all they employ (so some info maybe a little off in the detail, as per usual)

And now, a dramatic pause occurs whilst I play a couple of turns and report back on anything interesting happening!

Aww, thanks Prophetinreverse!
It's still decidedly a Work in Progress, though maybe two-thirds of the way to finishing the RN player version? Initially I naively thought that I could "just" design a load of historically-ish appropriate ships, slot them into the ship ID list and just hit the "gimme boats" button and the AI would serve up the retro floaty goodness... This, did not work. Because the game designs are split into c.5 year groupings and the first of these is used not only for the start fleets but everything built for the initial period (roughly pre-semi-Dreads) The game innocently produced some very odd fleets! I've seen US battle fleets with a dozen or more vaguely reconstructed, Civil War, Monitors (because they are cheap), and if you have just fed your nice 1890s ships into the first slot the AI will happily keep building them! Sigh... I then realised that I had to do it the hard way and manually create the start fleets for everyone. And THEN (and this bit is definitely still a WiP!) populate the early game ship lists with y1900+ appropriate designs for the opposition to buy...I'm only really looking at doing designs for everyone up to "mid-teens" Jutland-esque period (I'm not personally super into the aircraft side of things and IMHO the game does not yet handle these especially well anyway) but this means I'm "playing" six sets of games, with manually managed research (dipping into save games every Jan) and then have to extract the designs and tweak them before slotting them into the game's ship IDes file. Luckily I quite like the design process and have a lot of niche literature (I've been designing and playing naval wargames since I was 12) so it's not unbearably painful work but it will take a while to finish. I started over a year ago, and though I got lots done in lockdown, it's got a lot slower since they, most unreasonably, insisted I "come back to work"?! I'm more than happy to share the files (Save game plus IDes probably) but the game file I'm using is lacking the last couple of patches as I was wary of losing progress so I'm not utterly clear how transferable it'll be?? I'm planning on playing the first 3 years of this game and then I'll post an update. This may, or may not, be super action-packed, as the very start of the game often doesn't produce a war but they'll be a bunch more ships and designs to talk about if that's "the bag you're into"? I've yet to get the international IDes ship catalogue entirely to my satisfaction so they may well be some odd things popping up (had France and Germany buying half their fleets from each others dockyards the last play through ..ahem)

There's a heck of a lot of time and love that's gone into these. I really hope the expansion does a better job of representing these fine Victorian ships.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how far back they reach. With any start date there should be a whole lot of stuff that's even older! I'm personally fully up for the Ironclads though, the very first game I wrote was inspired by Lissa. It's the interplay of tactics, design and technology that I find fascinating.
