Interesting designs! I referee'd a scenario several times years ago with my war-gaming groups where a Roberts class monitor had an encounter with a German CL (starting at very long range), it was a quite fun 'what-if'.

I referee'd a scenario several times years ago with my war-gaming groups where a Roberts class monitor had an encounter with a German CL (starting at very long range), it was a quite fun 'what-if'. Thanks, I am going to venture farther into the round warship design. Possibly the game could introduce monitors and coastal warships of the round ship design. I think it would be interesting and fun.

Really interesting post. I’ve always had a “ thing “ for circular warships since I saw a sketch of Novogorod, years ago. Thankyou

I've designed a duplicate of the Imperial Russian Novgorod of 1874. Springsharp does not go back that far so this is the best that I can do.

Here is another design of an 1874 warship, almost round, the Vitse-Admiral Popov. One problem in this design application is that during era of these warships, they used wrought iron, not steel. I don't believe there is a noticeable difference between wrought iron and steel but I could be wrong. I am going to examine the design later but here it is.
