Very sorry to hear of Christopher Dean's passing. His collection of NWS games has given me countless hours of pleasure. I hope his spirit rests easy and wish him 'fair winds and following seas' in the ocean beyond.

It is a sad day for the forum. I started on this forum when it was on Yahoo. After I retired, Chris would call me and we would discuss naval history and many times he would ask me to research items and send the information. I always enjoyed those conversations. They have been missed. I hope all is well with his family.

A bad year for naval grognards got worse. Christopher Dean was the enabler for something special.

With this being such a tight knit community and business I think everyone who spends any time on this forum is going to feel his passing.
My condolences to his remaining family, friends and the NWS staff.
May he sail on into to calm seas and sunny skies.

When I stumbled across this forum I had a smoldering interest in naval history with no real catalyst. I haven't been here long, and like to read a lot more than write, but with the personal accounts of myself and a couple of friends to go by, considered with the solid reputation of Mr. Dean on this forum, I'd wager that he has been greatly responsible for the creation of many naval history fans, through multiple generations. Not a small feat!
I hope that friends and family of Mr. Dean will take some comfort in the community of fans of all things with hulls, airframes, and even treads, generated from the efforts of Mr. Dean and his bridge staff.

Fair winds and following seas, to the owner who enabled not just these games, but this community.
All the best, Tortuga

My deepest condolences to everyone who knew Mr Dean and his wife. I just joined the forum to express my sympathies, I’ve been playing rule the waves 2 for about a year so I’m new to this community but it’s obvious how important this man was to so many people. As a huge fan of history and naval video games I’ve found a place here that brings me great joy, and I have no doubt Mr Dean to thank for that, I want to thank everyone that’s helped make these games and this community possible. I hope for nothing more than for Mr Dean and his wife to be in a better place, god bless them and keep them safe.

I never really had a chance to get to know him. My interactions were basically limited to restoring my game setup and such, but I was always impressed with the patience he seemed to show for mistakes he must have seen a hundred times. lol. It sounds like many others here knew him better, and that his absence will be felt by everyone here whether they realize it or not. It will certainly give me something to think about the next time I fire up the game and think about the lives of the people behind it that brought it to life.

Very sad news, I have done business with Christopher for quite a few years now from HPS CD's (when CD's were still a thing), odd ball hard to find titles, to his own NWS's own titles. He was *always* helpful, patient and fair. You knew you were dealing with someone who cared about our hobby and for his customers. He will be missed. I wish him peace, as well to the friends and family he left behind.
