Ok, this is a wired one
The game runs just fine initially and yes, this goes for the division editor as well.
However, as soon as I overwrite a saved game, be it starting a new game in a slot that has been used prior or even if I manually delete the entire save-game folder, the moment I click on the division manager, the game becomes none-responsive and I have to kill it with the task manager. Even worse, from that moment on, this will happen whenever I start a game, no matter if it's a new game (in an empty save slot) or loading an old game. The second I click on the division manager, bam, game over.
The only way to get around that is to do a complete re-install _including_ deleting everything in the old RTW3 folder, that is left there after uninstalling (preferences, save-games,...). I _can_ backup the save game folder and then copy it back in and from that on it works.
Ok, just tested something. I have originally put RTW3 into "D:/Rule the Waves 3/Install 1" and this lead to the crash mentioned above I have tried to put it into D:/Rule the Waves 3 - new (without any sub-folder) and it seems that the problem doesn't happen with that configuration.
Since I seem to have solved my own problem, this is no longer _really_ a bug report (well, it kind of is), but if this (sub-folder) indeed _is_ the problem, the installer should probably check for this.

Thanks hawkeye - This is the first report of this kind we have seen, so I can't be sure exactly what is going on. I will see if I can replicate this on my local test machines, if so I will send the results over to Matrix to see what they can do on the installer part.

I have encountered the problem again even though RTW3 is now installed in a "root" folder, i.e. D:/Rule the waves 3, no sub-folder, so it can't be that.
I _do_ have a 3-screen setup though and I play either on screen 2 or 3, but always start the game on the screen I'm going to play on (aside from the battles, that always default to the main screen, so I have to drag them over).
Maybe there _is_ a connection here.
I'll try if saving the game while running on screen 2 and then loading it on screen 3 (and vice versa) causes the problem if time permits tomorrow.

I had the same problem now three times when launching a battle. Instead of entering the tactical map, the game freezes as described. I have to use the Windows Task Manager to end RTW3. But when I restart with the last save everything is ok again.

Ok, I think I solved it. When I play on screen 3 (projector) and end the game, then shut down the projector and open the game on screen 1 or 2, the game hangs the moment I open the division manager.
If I kill the game, power on the projector again and then restart the game, everything works fine.
So I'm pretty sure, it's the fact that the division manager window remembers where it opens last time (if I keep all screens active and run the game on a different screen, the division manager will open on the screen it opened last time) and there is no "fallback" option if that screen doesn't exist.

Yes - unfortunately the game engine is not completely multi-monitor friendly at this point, but we do hope to address that in the future.

Now that I know what causes it and I don't need to frequently re-install the game, it's not a big deal anymore.

Thanks for the informative reports! I will turn off the game remembering the position of the division screen. That means players will have to move it at the start of a game session if they want it somewhere else, but it is better than the game freezing up.
