Now, if friendly fire aerial attacks have been implemented I'm not complaining, but I believe it's a tad bit excessive for my Torpedo bombers in the midst of attacking an enemy task force about 18 NM away to somehow drop a bomb into the engine room of one of my escorting destroyers. drive.google.com/file/d/1UHUy_POCOX2y1JTEBuS3SHkndtkBWCAD/view?usp=sharing Attachments:

During the hunt of Bismarck, Swordfishes attacked shadowing cruisers instead of Bismarck. In the Mediterranean, British were amused by friendly attacks by Italian bombers and if I remember well it was not only once. So it is quite realistic.

During the hunt of Bismarck, Swordfishes attacked shadowing cruisers instead of Bismarck. In the Mediterranean, British were amused by friendly attacks by Italian bombers and if I remember well it was not only once. So it is quite realistic. Hence why I'm not complaining about friendly fire air attacks in general, but these aren't destroyers shadowing the enemy. They're the escorts of the carriers that launched the attack and maybe a thousand or two yards from said carriers. This happened quite literally a minute after 4 other aircraft from the same strike (same squadron, same carrier, same strike launch) was bombing enemy ships ~18 NM away. I thought this might be some weird target selection bug. If this is friendly fire air attacks WAD, then could I have some clarification on how those work? If an air strike spots an enemy fleet and begins the attack, how far can those aircraft deviate to hit friendly ships? I don't have a problem with an air strike arriving over the target area and hitting a friendly force that happens to be there, or hitting friendly ships in the midst of a melee with the enemy, but it's the early days of carrier aviation and my CVL's are spawning just out of sight of the enemy so it'd be nice to know if the problem of 'return to sender' will lessen as distances increase.

Yes, your own division escorts should prob not be a valid 'mistaken ID' target for carrier-launched attackers, so will check on this.
Starting ranges do greatly increase later in the game so this should not be an issue then.

I just had an AI CVL who managed to get torped by his own planes, just before I found it. So friendly fire appears on both sides - a very realistic feature.
