I'm talking about countries like the US and France as examples where ships could be built in more than one region and that we could select which region the ship is built in. France would be either Northern Europe or the Mediterranean. The US could have East or West Coast or even Carribean as it includes the gulf coast.

It would be cool, but I don't think this will happen because they would be afraid of unbalancing the AI and having to create some kind of calculation for it to determine "Ok where are the bigger, immediate threats" and then actually build in each theater appropriately. It would help Russia the most I believe, but I digress...

I came up with the thought after playing the US in 1900 before the Panama Canal was built and noticed how long it took. I remember reading where the US West coast built about 25% of the Navy's ships back then.

Maybe building light stuff like Corvettes, Destroyers and maybe even CLs in the bigger colonial yards? Should certainly be able to do the more basic refits overseas...Singapore and Pearl Harbour certainly had big enough facilities!

Actually, they didn't. Though numerous soviet ships, including light cruisers, were built in Arkhangelsk, which is common possession in game. Also, part of infrastructure was built there for launching battleships of 23 project. And in theory, there was nothing impossible in shipbuilding at Far East, though ships should become "golden". So I suggest, that additional build zones should be added after spending lots of money (like present dock expanding, but with, say, twice time and triple cost). They should have levels (2000 ton, 8000, 12 000, 16 000 etc) and ships, built there, cost more and suffer as if they built in "Undeveloped shipbuilding" country for first 10 years. In return, every level boost economics in both possesion and whole country.

The British tried to construct a warship (can't remember which one, off-hand) at Malta, figuring it would be good to make use of the facilities that had been built up there over the years. The ship was constructed, but there was too much of a delay in the construction due to lack of experience etc. and the experiment wasn't repeated.

They built quite a few corvettes etc in Canada... Given the game let's you build up docks basically as much as you like then stopping all construction everywhere isn't really sensible. Heavy guns and armour are probably too specialized but can always be imported. The British were buying armour from Czechs in the thirties, and people like Spain and China had to do it for most of the period.

Some of you are expanding way beyond my original suggestion, which was that for the home countries that touch more than 1 sea zone and historically those nations have built warships in both, allow us in game to in some way select which sea zone the ships are built in. That's why I used the 2 examples of USA and France.
