One of the great appeals of the Steam and Iron system for me, and I imagine many others, is the depth of the data recorded and the reports available at the end of a battle, including individual ship's logs and track charts. One thing I would like to see is way of generating an after-action and battle damage report for individual ships, something that provides more narrative detail than the SaI-generated log, identifying firing salvos, targets, locations of hits, flooding, fires, and so on. Also, a report on casualties, based on the number, type and location of various hits. It seems like this would be a relatively simple programming job, given that SaI generates its reports using a very specific, standardized format, like this log of the Russian flagship Suvorov, from a few minutes' worth of Tsushima: 27 04:48 12 in 15814 yds Secondary battery hit (B Mikasa, HE) 27 04:52 5 in 9066 yds Hull hit B (CL Kasagi, HE) 27 05:14 Main battery scores 1 hit on CA Chen Yen 27 05:14 Secondary battery scores 1 hit on CL Itsukushima
This need not be an addition to SaI itself, but could be a small, stand-alone application -- drop in the text from an SaI log, and the application will expand those into a more narrative form, with some additional randomly-generated detail added in. Alternately (and probably better) it could read a saved game file for the data. It would be great for generating after-action reports. Thoughts?
