Thanks for the great update. I used the option to replace umlaut characters The ship's name was successfully converted, but the officer's rank was not.

No, I do not believe it was successful, according to your screen print (and only that so far, so i could easily be wrong in that assessment. Yes, the umlaut letters were changed but ship named with umlaut letters were duplicated. That means the game is not recognizing that the u with an umlaut (for example) is the same as a ue, and so sees the ship name Nurnberg (pretend there's an umlaut there) as being available again and reuses it. The mod correctly changes the name to Nuernberg so you have several of those, like the N rnbergs we repeatedly saw before. Notice the only ship names on that list that were duplicated are ones that originally had diacritical marks in the name.
I am running Windows 11 on my laptop, and English is the only language I know, and I have consistently had this problem, so it is NOT only on machines with Asian based operating systems.

Compared to the broken names we had seen, this beta test looked great because the letters were still visible.

We have a new internal beta that adds additional code to resolve this issue for good we believe.

This problem continues in 1.00.42beta. Place names in which umlaut characters are used are also not converted.
I could not confirm this in my world, but I have heard that airfields built in place names where the umlaut script is used have been nullified.

Burningapple3 Can you try the following to see if it affects this issue: Open up settings for Windows, select 'Time and Language', then select 'Administrative language settings', and in the "Language for non-Unicode programs" section press the "Change system locale" button, select "English (United States)" and also check the box "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support". Edit: We are looking at a fix for the officer and other names as well.

The place name ö was displayed It was never cured perfectly, but it was transformed into a different state than before. 舅 ・ is no longer displayed.
P.S. I have previously set up German using the method presented. It did not work in that case.

Ok, thanks Burningapple3 - Fredrik has now altered the setting to include everything (not just ship names) in the game that uses accent characters in the latest beta, if we caught everything that should resolve the issue completely.
