The problem with common rebuilds of DDs I see is you loose Elite crew quality, and you would most probably not regain it in case of CP/ASW ships. In the light of the comment by Fredrik, It would be interesting to know what is "stronger": malus from the "obsolete" or bonus from the Elite crew A very sound point. I suppose it all has to boil down to a number somehow...

Hmmmmm. I do love my elite crews but I'll rebuild that ship when it gets the (o) sticker and trust my crews will recover.

I really like torpedo cruisers and before I get my first class of purpose built ones I usually refit some of my newer CLs as a stopgap.
I mainly role play my refits, and often my DDs get rebuilt into DEs with their torp complement reduced for better speed and a bit of mines.

Whats the most weight savings you've gotton with a refit and what did you do with said weight. in related note in a slighty different game I was able to fit better "torpedos" and a "gun" system to a "destoryer" for the same weight as the base model.

Just FYI regardless of rebuilds there is an age factor in ship damage control, so that an older ship has a slight disadvantage in stopping flooding and putting out fires.
