I've read through the (apparently dead) 'War is good for business', and I thought I'd check if anyone would be interested in doing another similar one. I was thinking of doing a smaller, possibly custom nation, that will be ordering foreign ships, meaning we could have people representing both national and international shipyards. I'd also be open to the idea of having more interactive elements in other ways, but I can't think of what they'd be, so feel free to make suggestions!
I was thinking of doing either Argentina (definitely not tooting my own horn), Spain, or the Ottomans. Thoughts? Russia would also be a possibility for a bigger nation. I'll also be doing historical resources, because actually being able to afford a navy is no fun.

I was also thinking of doing a wacky one as either the British or the French.
Rule #1: Everything is made up and the points don't matter.
Rule #1a: The player may, at his discretion, allow other designers to acclaim interesting or successful designs.
Rule #2: Naval Board - the player - gets to set out the specifications
Rule #3: All designs which meet the required specifications will be accepted as 'to be built'.
Rule #3a: Construction will be prioritized on the lowest cost design first.
Rule #3b: The player shall determine when a new specification for any class of ship shall be required, and end the continued construction of ships - even if some more expensive ships did not get constructed
Rule 3 and it's sub-rules is intended to remove the 'all or nothing' aspect of the designs. In addition, the low cost prioritization is designed to encourage designers to make some interesting choices in a bid to actually get their ship built.
Rule #4: There is no limit to the participants in the game. Feel free to drop in or out. Don't worry about not submitting designs.
The idea behind this is to enjoy the design process, play a bit of chicken with respect to design...and to challenge the player to avoid getting sacked with what will assuredly become a completely non-homogeneous fleet.
If I were the player, I'd probably rejoice if people were submitting 'badnought' designs. The wackier the better.

I wouldn't bother with points anyway, to be honest. I think it'd be better if it wasn't a fair competition which you could easily score on. Corruption, back-room-dealing, and just plain bad decisions should be part of it, I think!

I personally am not that interested in the idea that all designs submitted will get built (or at least that is how I interpret #3). I do like me interactive AAR, but that is my 2 cents. My main reason for disliking #3 is that to me that would seem to end up with a lot of tactically incompatible one ship classes of stuff

I'm not a fan of that point either, at least not for what I personally want to do.

Would an ex-Admiralty member be welcome in this new AAR?
Also: suggestion instead of rule 3:
All Players (and Spectators) can (and, hopefully, will) vote to determine which Design (not their own) will be taken by the Board.

Maybe some kind of penalty too?

Well, fortunately I'll be finishing this semester at Uni in the next few days, so I'll have some free time. However, I do have two exams coming up so I can't guarantee consistant participation until the end of the month. If you guys start before then, I would quite like to join as an 'apprentice' designer.

I'd say no to voting on designs for story/gameplay reasons: If people are voting on designs they will be voting purely on which design is actually the best design, in their opinion. I think it would work well for the story if decisions were made with the quality of the submission being one factor, but not the only one. Political concerns, bribery, and incompetence could all play a part.
If I went for the Ottomans, it'd be good to have an Ottoman, British, German, and possibly French yard at a minimum. If we get them, people could then add more yards to each country. Italy and Austria-Hungary are likely to be enemies, and I can't imagine I'd be ordering ships from Russia, so those ones could be skipped.
Could people pick a country here that they'd like their yard in, and I'll make a proper thread when we've got enough?
