So you're basically firing an entire mid-size motor torpedo boat (or 90-100 Sopwith camels, or 14 P-51s, or 3 F-15s, or a fully loaded B-29) at the enemy with each broadside.

Crew for this ship should be hired among National Lottery winners. Just imagine, what disaster may come from ONE not-so-lucky person on board!

The question remained, just how much firepower was being leveled at the unlucky bastards on the target ship? Let's find out. The first step was to calculate the weight of the ammunition. However, I realize only now that I've been using short tons to calculate with. If RtW uses long tons, this number would increase to (brace for impact) 144,021lbs. Wow, that's gross. *rim-shot* (thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week...)

I must point out that 5 1/2" of conning tower armor is extremely optimistic - and redundant. Wherever a shell hits on this thing, the bridge crew are probably goners.
Seventy-five tons per broadside... whew. I wonder if the game builds in the bobbing effect the ship experiences as it pushes all of that weight overboard? I'd wonder about accuracy - if, that is, the ship didn't represent a sea-going multi-barrel shotgun of Looney-Tunes proportions. I'd still suggest replacing the 6" tertiaries with something larger, and I would reduce the number of rounds-per-gun to a more realistic 20 or 30.
Okay, I'll be the one to say it... someone is going to have to build one of these exploding expletives and test it out in combat.

I don't know about combat-testing, but noshurviverse appears to have at least laid one down - you can see the list of ships under construction behind the ship overview image in the second image of his or her most recent post, and the ship at the top of the list is Please No, with a displacement of 52,000t, summarized armament of 32x18", 24x17", design speed of 32kn, short range, and cramped accommodations, and a cost per month of ~9.1M to build. Also, noshurviverse's most recent post, and the image in the post he or she made previous to that, implies that the earlier 24x18"+24x17" Vettor Pisani was built.

Just a note: During the Battle of the Bismarck Straits, after Hood was sunk, at 0602 a 15-inch shell struck the starboard side of the compass platform, Captain leach actually survived although the navigating officer was wounded. Most of the casualties were from sprinters and fragments of the shell's ballistic cap. I would not assume that all hits on the bridge or areas on the superstructure would kill everyone. There are many instances where it did not.

There are many instances where it did not. It's not so much that - it's that the ship's covered in barely-armored turrets containing multiple heavy guns. director's implication is that if anything hits the ship, the ship is likely to explode, either because the shell that hit it penetrated a turret and caused a flashfire, or because the shell that hit it penetrated a magazine and detonated it.

So I've gone through with the max firepower builds. And it looks like they're going to be needed very quickly.

Update on the "all guns BC". I entered a medium Cruiser engagement with a pair of my Why-classes. In the night we quickly dispatched a CA, then decided to turn back for port. That plan was abruptly interrupted by a pair of DDs emerging from the dark, who managed to sink a trio of torpedoes into the side of BC No. Rather incredibly, the damage control teams were able to quickly get the flooding under control, although her top speed was greatly reduced. It was at that point that a full four enemy BCs appeared on the horizon. While I could have abandoned 'No' to her fate, I decided that we'd make a stand with our 84 gun broadside.
The weakness of our armor was soon laid clear, as a 6" HE round managed to set off the ammunition magazine of 'Why'. Now facing 4:1 odds and already limping from the three torpedoes she took earlier, 'No' refuses to go down, despite every round she takes penning her armor. Even when reduced to a mere 2kts, her guns keep up the fire.
Within the hour, each enemy BC is crippled from the overwhelming firepower she can put out, before each side turns and limps away. The end result: three enemy BCs under the sea in exchange for a single Why-class. Still, the point value of each why class is massive in comparison, so the game decides in favor of them.

Oh, and let's meet the little sister ships.

I just carried out a little experiment of this type. My preferred late-game cruiser is an 8000-ton ship with 12x6" guns, but they are expensive... and my Byzantine engineers can't seem to get the machinery and weights to the point that building one makes sense. My usual 'go-to' for a colony-patrol CL is a 5500-tonner with 5" main armament, but I had a 4" gun of +1 quality and couldn't seem to mount many more 5" on a CL than on my 8x5" 1500-ton destroyers. Besides, the 4" (+1) has the same range and similar performance to a 0-quality 5", so... why not? So enter the 'Spitfire' class armed with 18-4" guns in six triple turrets. For a 4" gun, a quad mount might make more sense but the game won't permit it, so triples it is. She has good speed (28 knots), splinter-proof armor protection, and Oh My Gracious, can she bark... I watched two of the 'Spits' take on two French CL with 8x6" apiece. 'Sirocco' was badly wounded driving off one while 'Spitfire' simply machine-gunned the second into wreckage, then went after and finished off the first. It wasn't unusual for her to land a dozen hits per turn, and even from a 4" that's quite a lot of damage. As with your BC experiment, I found that either my 'Spitfire' types take a lot of damage or they dish a lot out and take little in return. With these 'eggshells armed with hammers' it seems to come down to who hits first on a vital spot. I have to say I'm quite taken with my machine-gun cruisers and am building more of them.
