A quick notice to let everyone know that the RTW2 board is now live. We have our first 'Developers Journal' posting in a thread on the new board, and we have (for now) setup a thread where members can discuss RTW2 pre-release.
Thanks, and enjoy the preview.

Woot, much excitement (and congratulations that RTW2 has reached this stage)! And, briefly, thought the name of the series had changed to something like 'Ruling Waves Triumphantly' .

Unless I have totally missed it there has not been a discussion of land based air. Much like the argument that coastal forts always had an advantage over ships, ground based air supposedly had an advantage over carrier based air. Ground based aircraft didn't have to be limited by what a carrier could stow below decks and didn't have to carry the extra weight for folding wings or arrester hooks. The key point is that an EQUAL number of guns mounted in forts or an EQUAL number of land based aircraft should be able to defeat naval versions thereof. In the early days of naval aviation it was not hard to conjecture Pacific island chains being able to hold off an entire enemy fleet with 200 aircraft, especially when more land based aircraft could be flown in daily to replace losses. A "Great Pacific War" fought in the 1920's or even '30s' might prove that strategy true. Another weapon system/scouting platform I haven't seen mentioned is the airship. Perhaps with parasite fighters or scout planes like the USS Akron.

There will be airships in the game, and land-based air will exist. I can't get into any more detail than that at this point however.
Thanks!
