Have you lads considered adding hydroplane tenders? Basically, like CL-tier handler of a handful of hydroplanes (1-4), pitiful in any meaningful combat but quite interesting force multiplier for ASW patrol/colonial service. One of these could take the role of 3ish surface combatants. Their additional roles can be minelaying, and if you have spare good will, you can even implement them for helicopters! Historic example would be ex Royal Yugoslav KJRM Zmaj which became the German Drache, that eventually became world's first helicopter carrier with two Flettner Fl 282. The Regia Marina considered to trasform the heavy cruiser Bolzano, torpedoed in August 1942, into an aircraft launcher with two catapults and about a dozen Reggiane 2000 or 2001 fighters. Operating in the Mediterranean these planes could easily land in some Axis land base. The twenties were also the period of hybrid carrier designs, who had a gun armament similar to that of a heavy cruiser. At the Museo Tecnico Navale Della Spezia, there is a model of a 12500 ton hybrid aircraft carrier, designed in 1925 by General Giuseppe Rota (up to about 1965 italian naval officers of the Engineering Corps had the same ranks as army officers). Funnels and masts were supposed to lower into the deck when needed; a special stern and a lower hangar for seaplanes recovery was also envisaged. A larger carrier, somewhat inspired to USS Saratoga and Lexington, was designed in Italy by General Filippo Bonfiglietti in 1929. See: www.amazon.fr/portaerei-scomparsa-Bonfiglietti-progettata-dimenticata/dp/887801558XGeneral Rota also made a study to transform the hull of the 34000 ton superdreadnought Francesco Caracciolo, launched after the end of First World War, into an aircraft carrier.

I'm partial to the following names for a Ark Royal class Carrier for the British. They take their names (much like the leading ship) from vessels in the Elizabethan Navy or otherwise used by English "privateers" against Spain:
HMS Ark Royal HMS Elizabeth Bonaventure HMS Golden Hind HMS Nonperiel

Some remarkable admiral could be used to name a French carrier: Suffren, Tourville.
Also I would not mind name my carrier after Saint Malo, where most of the French sailors come from.
Toulon, La Fayette, Surcouf, Richelieu and Jean Bart could is also on the top of my waitlist if they have not been occupied by battleships.
As for the Russian navy, Makarov should be the No. 1 choice.

Seaplane Tenders (USN designation of "AV") will be included in RTW2...as a matter of fact some Beta Team members were testing out designs of those very recently :-) Really? Very interesting! Looks like I have another type of USN ship to research.
But does this mean we might be able to look forward to destroyer tenders, submarine tenders, colliers/replenishment oilers, and ammunition ships?

IIRC that tech has been mentioned in internal discussion, but it would be lower on the list to include; so right now I would say it's more unlikely than likely to be in.

Thanks for your reply William. I totally understand that, helicopters in the 1940s are not that useful in naval warfare and seaplanes and flying boats could get the job done as well.

Personally, I like blimps. Blimp hangars are just awesome, believe me. As for helo's, they are a little dangerous and noisy as hell. They have the glide angle of a brick..... three feet forward, and 500 feet down. They don't auto-rotate that well either. However, these are my favorite - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_XFY_Pogo en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_X-13_Vertijet

The most cost-efficient option is to name them all Enterprise. That way they never sink, if they get scrapped they just respawn with upgrades, and they slaughter everything.
Actually, if you're playing against Japan, you just need one.
Enterprise vs Japan: fighting with a broken elevator and still OP.
