Preferences for ingame battle stuff (Auto pause, admiral mode, etc) seems to reset every time I open the game, why?
Ships on foreign stations, when refit, stay in the home area, instead of moving to their stations, making it very tedious.

Ships on foreign stations, when refit, stay in the home area, instead of moving to their stations, making it very tedious. I can see it as reasonable solution. In reality you need to sail to drydock capable of doing such refit. Game simulates it is possible only in home area. This is abstracted to zero time. Your refitted ship waits for orders. It is OK, other ship usually took duties of refitting ship.

You're terminology is a bit confusing. The term "foreign stations", when used in the context of RTW, describes a very specific ship status (FS) in which the ship will always move on its own, including after a refit.
But I suspect you are using that term in a more general sense to describe a ship that you have manually moved to a region to satisfy the basing requirements.
I don't think that every player would necessarily want to have a ship that they have refit automatically move back to its previous location. I believe players would complain that the computer is inappropriately moving their ships without their consent. In most cases if the ship is at a distant posting to meet the basing requirements, you first have to move a replacement ship to that location before sending the original back for a refit. In that situation I would not want to have the refit ship automatically sent back to that distant post because the replacement is now satisfying the basing requirement.
Your other concern is well founded, though I've never had to reset my playing mode (Admiral, Rear admiral, Captain) when the game restarts.

I don't think that every player would necessarily want to have a ship that they have refit automatically move back to its previous location. Indeed not. This was actually an issue for me the other day. The game actually does move ships back to the area they came from if you have multiple home areas, which is disruptive if, say, you're the US anticipating a war with Japan and are maintaining a fleet on the West Coast ready to move to NE Asia after the surprise attack hits. Tonnage requirements aren't an issue for home areas, but if you're simultaneously anticipating a war with a European power and don't want to reduce force levels on the East Coast more than necessary or for longer than necessary, then refitting ships on the West Coast involves a fair bit of micromanagement that would be reduced if everything just went back to the East Coast.

I don't think that every player would necessarily want to have a ship that they have refit automatically move back to its previous location. Have it as a setting then. ;D Simple no? ;V

Tbh,vthis is kinda all moot. Development has stopped for Rates devs said there will be no further patches which is reasonable in light of RTW2
