I am using CVL with capacity 28. 20 are torpedo bombers and 8 are fighters. Spot size is 16.
At the start of two different battles now I have set a strike of 16 torpedo planes. A strike of 2 fighters was set as a separate recon. My goal was to use fighters for detection followed by a large torpedo attack.
The game auto launched torpedo planes as scouts.
The strike of 16 was reset to 18 in one case and 20 in another. This is over the spot rating of the carrier so the strike is now unlaunchable. I have to unready them, reset to the max 16 then ready again.
I did notice this in the prior battle and thought maybe I had forgotten. This time I was very sure to ready the appropriate strike size. I saw on the map torpedo planes on recon which I did not authorize. It is contrary to my doctrine.
It appears the auto launch of torpedo plane scouts can't be stopped and will also reset the strike number. That reset doesnt look at the spot size leading to a wasted ready cycle.

what you do is before the battle starts set search to no search then it wont send out planes to scout
when you do have search on it will start in 360 with 300 distance each red line is where a plane will be sent
thus always do focused searches with light carriers or the intire airwing goes out to search
