Carrier effective aircraft capacity-per-displacement-ton in RTW2 will reduce as time goes by to reflect later model (i.e. larger and heavier) aircraft coming into service...this is somewhat abstracted but does give more realistic number of carrier capacity as aircraft inevitably increase in size & weight. This was from the pre-release discussion thread. Is this actually happening in the final game? I'm not sure.

Supposedly, but I also haven't seen it in action yet either. Refitting my CVs does not yet change their aircraft load.

I noticed some of my carriers getting heavier after some time

I've also noticed that CV's seem to be losing available tonnage in refits -- so it sounds as if this is the way it's being implemented. I did have to cut a couple of aircraft carried to make up for this additional weight required.

That explains why some of my designs with very little free tonnage end up overweight in rebuilds after a couple of years.
