I though I read somewhere, that 6" turrets cannot blow up, but maybe that's only true for 2ndary armaments? (.. and I checked in the game files, the ship did have 6in turrets)
What about the 2" armoured 5" turrets commonly found on CLs?!

Actually I’m pretty sure it is that 6in and higher can blow up.
Also if the magazine is hit then ships of any size can blow up. I have 5in DDs blowing up due to magazine hit. I don’t think flashfires can happen with 5in or lesser guns tho, regardless of being primary or secondary arms.

I had this some times, in RTW1 and RTW2 also. But it is quite rare - normally I equip the legacy cruisers with 10 x 6", not armoured at all. The chance must be lower than 0,5% of all guns hit by enemy shells. In secondary I never did encounter any blowups, at 6" or 7" casemates.

What about the 2" armoured 5" turrets commonly found on CLs?! The 6" guns and lower caliber cannot blow if they are secondary or tertiary armament. However as main armament, they can blow after flash fire.
But this risk needs to be taken as armouring them enough against own guns is just too expensive.
5" guns can have flash fire which can blow ship too however it is very rare.

In one of my games a 4in armed cruiser also blew up. I was really confused by that.

As I am aware there are 2 possibilities that ship would blow up.
1. turret hit - flash fire - ship blow up 2. magazine hit - ship blow up
