I have been playing for quite some time now, but I realised I don't really know much about how casemates actually perform in the game. I do know that they are more affected by bad sea state than turrets (unless I am wrong). I have also noticed that they're lighter than turrets but still heavier than shielded mounts (at least in primary battery, because in secondary abttery they seem to be just lighter).
My main question would be how do they interact with armor of the ship itself. Do they present a weakpoint in the B or BE? Do they get an armor bonus from the B or BE (I think i found a mention fo that somewhere but not sure where or whether it's true)? Do they have ROF, range or accuracy penalties compared to their turreted brethren?

Alright, i'll answer the questions you have to the best of my knowledge. Do they present a weak-point in a ship? Well yes but if a shell hits the case-mate it will destroy the case-mate and won't be that much damage to the rest of the ship. Do they get an armour Bonus? no, the case-mate itself will not get any boost in armour but it will be surrounded by much thicker armour(if there on a BB or another well armoured ship, so there's that. DO they have ROF,range or accuracy penalties? ROF of 8 inch or smaller guns in turrets will have penalties at the start of the game but these can be removed by research(and maybe training). Range and accuracy will stay the same as far as i know. Now another reasons why you switch to turrets is because turrets can be made DP and have better field of fires compared to case-mates. They also do not have as much trouble with heavy seas. I'm sure other members will have much better answers to mine but i hope your happy with mine.

My understanding is that casemates can be damaged by penetrating BE hits without the casemate armor being penetrated. So as the game goes on and BE becomes less popular, casemates tend to be less protected than full turrets. IDK about ROF/range/acc penalties- I think they don't have any, but they might.

Very large guns in casemate get RoF penalty iirc. But smaller ones should perform as well as turrets in goodd weather
