Sounds great! Thank you for the update - that seems like a very fair compromise.
One quick suggestion on that - if the player chooses that option, would it be possible to artificially slow down some of the highest-level research? By that I mean, make only the last 2 or 3 levels of each tech area 10x more expensive and difficult to get to. That way, there would still be some national differences and reasons to do research left late in the "extended" game.

I like that idea! Honestly, I wouldn't want to play it much past 1925 and I agree that from the historical perspective that's already pushing it a bit since there's no aircraft implemented - but from the gameplay perspective, in 1925 you're usually just short of reaching the end of the tech tree and have the chance to lay down your "ultimate" dreadnoughts, but with a 3-year wait before they're commissioned, you never actually get to play with them, which feels anticlimactic after making all that effort to get to them. I'd probably play to 1930 for my own preference, not further than that Honestly your ultimate dreadnoughts might end up being very vulnerable. Using baloogans patcher I was able to play to 1927. My quality 1 16 inch gun could penetrate the maximum allowed belt armor at 20,000 yards. Looks like speed is armor again...

Well, that's exactly why I'd like to play them! Not knowing how they'd do and having your expectations dashed is part of the fun
