I've been sailing alongside this CA for about five minutes irl, about 300 ticks worth of game time, and my destroyers absolutely refuse to launch their torpedoes. The ship is RIGHT THERE, no matter what angle I try it from. Front? No. Side? No. Back? No.
And yet, despite this. In the last battle I lost a CA because it was sailing past a sinking CL at 6,000 yards and it nailed my ship in pitch black night with a submerged tube. ****, I haven't had a destroyer land a single torpedo the entire game, and I've been at war with Germany for nearly two years.
Yes, I know that early game torpedoes aren't very useful, but this is just retarded. They are well within range, have a good solution on the ship but they just won't fire.
The same issue applies to Surprise Battles, your destroyers yolo straight into the enemy fleet and then spend the next 200 ticks sailing in circles and shooting their guns, opposed to using the torpedoes that they have and getting an easy five or six kills.
I checked, all of them have their torpedo loaded, they just won't use it.

it's 1903 - unless the target is moving slow they generally don't fire much early game
they definitely fire torps later game in spades, so it's WAD

There is always captain mode if you don’t want to put up with early game torpedo shenanigans as well

The cruiser is moving away. The AI captains calculate that your torpedo speed is not fast enough to overtake him in a timely manner, thus they believe it is a bad risk.
The enemy AI captains will relentlessly manuever to get ahead of you. With the torpedo speed added to your ship's speed, instead of subtracted, the chance of a hit climbs remarkably.

I was having trouble firing them manually for some reason. Kept getting out of arc and friendly fire. DDs and CLs on screen and flotilla attack runs. Rest of the fleet is port side and im trying to fire starboard within 600 yards basically on top of them. So, not sure if im bugged or not. Was playing as Japan and have researched up to lvl 5 for torpedoes and got to 700 tons on DDs.

Hi rukia , you're experiencing one of the frustrations of this game, which can be said to mimic the frustrations of real life. (I don't comment on that here.) My tips for getting your underlings to launch torpedoes: 1. Activate flotilla attack (it's the button with three ships on it, available from your flagship division) 2. Assume a lead position on moving targets -- basically get ahead of them. 3. I seem to have more success when the DDs are allowed to run straight (without course change) for a turn or two. The AI launching torpedoes is likely also bugged (the "friendlies in line of fire" in Captain's mode), but until the team addresses that, you can't be sure if your AI DDs are not launching because of poor solution or because of a bug. The only way to be sure about these things is to switch to Captain's mode. Then you can manually launch the torpedoes yourself.

I was having trouble firing them manually for some reason. Kept getting out of arc and friendly fire... <Snip> Yeah, this is AFAIK a bug. Hopefully it is fixed, as it's probably affecting torpedo launches for all ships (both manual player launches in Captain's mode, but also AI ships).

They are well within range, have a good solution on the ship but they just won't fire. In your screenshot, Hokaze absolutely can not hit the target (I'm not even sure the target would be in arc if it were sitting stationary), and Minakaze might have a marginal, maximum-range solution, but probably not. You have to take torpedo travel time into account: your ships have to aim for where the enemy will be when the torpedo reaches it, and with early game torpedo speeds, the lead angles and extra distance traveled beyond the current range to the target can be significant when the target is opening the range. That said, while this particular instance is almost certainly down to the geometry of the shot being marginal at best, there does seem to be a bug in the determination of friendly ships being in the line of fire. About 70% of the time when I get the friendly ship in line of fire message, I can find a friendly ship whose course will take it near the torpedo track, but which is not immediately obvious at first glance, but there are a few cases that I just can't figure out no matter how hard I think.
