I would like to suggest that random natural disasters be included in the game from 1900 to 1955. Here is a list of those I feel could radically change the strategic situation and economic situation in the world.
1. Volcano eruption - We know that Italy and surrounding islands are subject to both volcanism and earthquakes. The Dutch East Indies has the same issue but theirs are much worse. This could substantially affect oil production and passages like the Sunda Straits. The same for the Solomons. Japan is volcanic and is subject to some violent, strong earthquakes. In 1923, Tokyo and Yokohama were wrecked by a strong earthquake. This earthquake is given credit for economic problems which led to the military taking control. Western US has volcanoes and earthquakes. San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles could be a problem. Hawaii is subject to volcanism and earthquakes which could cause Pearl Harbor some problems. China has earthquakes.
2. Typhoons/Hurricanes- The Far East is subject to severe Typhoons like the 1944 Halsey Typhoon. Even California could be hit as the Eastern seaboard of the US.
3. Monsoon's - India and Burma are greatly affected by the Monsoon's which could disrupt economic and the strategic situation in the Far East.
4. Tsunami's - A result of earthquakes and volcanoes are Tsunami's. They won't affect the fleet at sea, but once they hit the coast, it could be a disaster and could added to the earthquakes and volcanoes. Harbor's could be destroyed along with the ships, docks etc.
A random event like one of those I have suggested could destroy or severely affect the economic situation of the affected nation. Russia is subjected to this on a regular basis. Germany, England, France are affected by severe storms but I suspect the game probable already represents those.
I don't think this has to be complex. Once the event occurs, the economics of the area could be reduced, sometimes bases might be destroyed and have to be rebuilt. I leave it to the team.

Just as a help to this suggestion, here are some area and events. Priorities are from left to right.
1. California - Earthquakes 2. Oregon, Washington - Earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunami's 3. Hawaiian Island - Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Tsunami's and possibly Hurricanes 3. Southeast Asia - Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Tsunami's and Typhoon's 4. Mediterranean - Earthquakes, Volcanoes 5. Caribbean- Hurricane's, earthquakes 6. Indian Ocean - Monsoon's 7. Japan - Earthquakes, Tsunami's and Volcanoes, possibly Typhoon's 8. China, Korea - Earthquakes
This is just a simple listing of areas and their prioritized types of possible natural disasters. The highest priority event is the first and they decrease to the right. Hurricanes occur every year, so this has to be accounted for.

Great idea! Events that could cause the loss/damage of a ship and or loss of budget. Cool.

The Japanese did lose ships under construction to earthquakes historically.

The Japanese did lose ships under construction to earthquakes historically. It did and it ruined Japanese national optimism. The name of the earthquake was the Great Kanto Earthquake. Yokohama was essentially obliterated. Some historians give the rise of the Right Wing Patriotic party to this event, some do not. However, on the whole it wrecked the Japanese economy.

Another natural disaster occurred during the Italian Campaign of WW2 with the last major eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It was in March 1944. There were B-25's of the 486 Bombardment Squadron stationed nearby. The fabric on the wings was burned, planes covered with hot ash, plexiglass cracked and melted. That group lost 78-88 aircraft. These natural disaster's do have an effect on military operations.

Just some basic information on the origin and direction of the three main hurricane and typhoon areas.
1. The first is the Atlantic hurricanes which start as waves near the Azores in the June timeframe. They move westward, then can move three basic directions. A. north over the Bahama's and along the east coast. B. Into the Caribbean, then north into the southern US or straight west into Mexico.
2. The second is the Southern tip of Baja California and they move north along the west coast of Baja. After this they can head northeast over northern Mexico and into Arizona and New Mexico. They can also continue north but due to the cold California current, they were head west or northwest toward Hawaii and can hit Hawaii.
3. The third is the typhoon area about 1000 miles east of the Philippines. These will head west then either head north as far as Japan, head Northwest over Formosa and into China or continue westward toward the Philippines and into Vietnam.
This is just some very general information. Once a hurricane or typhoon hits cold water or land, it deteriorates into just a tropical storm, and then into a tropical depression. However, this does not mean it does have heavy rains and strong winds along with strong tides. The strongest winds are in the northeast sector of the hurricanes and typhoons. . Atlantic Hurricane season is from June 1 to Nov. 30
Typhoon season is from May to October but can form all year round.
The eastern Pacific season generally starts around Nov. 1 and ends on April 30,2020.
All these effects can swamp ports and wreck ships. I hope this very simplified information can help the team to decide whether they want to include this natural disaster in the game.

Another natural phenomenon that I haven't mentioned is the dust storm originating in the Sahara. These can move north into the Med and the North Atlantic. They frequently hit Malta, Sicily and mainland Italy along with Greece. I assume you can imagine the damage that they can do to aircraft and urban centers.

+1
Random events to change each playthrough.
As well as disasters there could be benefit events which might affect one nation (could be an enemy) or several:
= Mineral deposit found = Economic theories = Worker education = National spirit
And negative events = Religious schism (no more details needed to avoid tender feelings) = Crime lords on the rise = Bureaucratic inefficiency

I personally don't know if they are already in the game. Maybe someone else knows.
