Why do certain areas NOT have a force requirement?

I ask this because I'm puzzled about it. In my current game there are four areas that don't have force requirements and haven't since the start of the game. I'm now twelve years in and this hasn't changed. However, as the UK I have bases in three of the areas and in two of those there are also other nations present. So I'm guessing that the force requirements do not dynamically change. Do folks feel that this is something that should be suggested for the game, or would it be just gilding the lily?

There is a threshold value for there being a requirement at all. This threshold is dependent on fleet size. The idea is that you should not have to send ships to totally insignificant colonies, especially not if you are playing on the smaller fleet sizes and may not have all that many ships.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still playing on the smaller size so I haven't looked at the bigger ones. I'll start a couple of new games using the other save slots and see if I have any other questions once I give those a look.
