Hi all, as always sorry if this has already been asked. I tried searching.
My scientists have just discovered flightdecks. I am trying to convert a CA to a CVL. I remove main guns, add flight deck and aircraft. Tried adding main guns back in (wing turrets), tried a few things. The check indicates it can't identify the ship and that it's illegal.
Can someone provide me a step by step as to how to do the CA-CVL (or any ship to CVL or CV) please?

While we await your answer to SteveTheCat's question (delightful picturing a cat playing this game btw), I can sum up the process.
Actually I will cut to the quick. Armor doesn't matter in conversions, but adding guns after you remove them must be unarmored mounts of 6" or less. That is commonly a sticking point. After that, if you're getting the pop-up identifying CVL parameters than you know the tonnage & aircraft maximums, but those are 14,500 tons (94% sure I remember right there) and 34 aircraft max to be a CVL.
But we'll see your answer about tonnage, then go to stage 2.

but adding guns after you remove them must be unarmored mounts of 6" or less. This is incorrect. New 6" guns have to be in single mounts with at most 2" armor and if you stick with the original main battery caliber you might be limited to preexisting turrets, but otherwise you can use more or less whatever you want for CV/CVL main battery wing guns during conversion.
kyle, if you were trying to use casemated 6" guns, put them into single mounts and give them at most 2" armor.

Sounds like it's been answered already, but we've got the carrier requirements on the Design page in the wiki now (https://rtw2.fandom.com/wiki/Design), for future reference.
