Just browsing for a new game and accidentally came across 'Rule the Waves". Looked interesting and different so I picked it up. So far, very fun. Here's some initial observations / questions from exploring the game: 1.When I was designing and then building my legacy fleet, it was not clear how much funds I had available to purchase with and what remaining balance was. Also, once I built my legacy fleet (before hitting the continue button), was there any way to make adjustments on the ships I bought besides scrapping them?
2.Playing as England, when moving my ships in the initial phase, I noticed if I assigned a move command for a cruiser from England to the North American East Coast, the game lists the destination as West Africa? If I assign a ship to the Indian Ocean the destination is shown as the Mediterranean?
More observations to follow as I spend more time with the game ;-)

it would also be nice to have multiple save slots for the same game. To allow exploring of the game and if I screw up, I can recover via a save. Currently, with one save slot per game, it's kind of limiting.

Currently, with one save slot per game, it's kind of limiting. Second that. But for the time being you could use your MS Explorer of course and make backups of your game folders at different stages.

Not sure if you were doing it manually or had the computer build a legacy fleet. When you build manually, you have a running tally of remaining funds to build from.
You can eventually rebuild ships in your legacy fleet.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Very fun game for the naval enthusiast. I have a collection of naval warfare books and diecast ship models (Eaglemoss Warships of the World) that go well with this game ;-)
Another observation: When the "Research Breakthrough" pop-up window appears, the "ok" response button is smack in the middle of the research title. Making it a little hard to read what was just researched.

Related to the pop-up window that displays the "Research Breakthrough". I just had a pop-up appear mentioning something about i have a problem with influential people due to not enough ships on station, but I couldn't read most of the text because it was sunk in the lower half of the pop-up + the "ok" button was blocking it as well. I tried to re-size the window (the window could not be re-sized). Maybe some issue with my screen or resolution?
I looked under "messages", "intel reports" and "almanac" looking for a message history so I could read the message I missed, but it doesn't appear to be recorded anywhere.
It would be nice if the "Messages" button recorded and displayed all messages that occurred during a turn.

bssybeep, it sounds like you are having text size set to 125% on your computer. This will make some text ovwerflow and buttons appear in the wrong places. Try it with 100%.
Messages shows messages from the last turn, but it might be that not all message types are included.

I had to adjust the text size to get another game to run. Spent some more time with the game and had a few more questions: 1.I am playing as England and currently at war with the U.S. I have two CA's stationed off the U.S. West Coast. Twice now I got a battle message (I believe) about a raid on Alaska and offer of battle. Both times I accepted but got a message stating I could not move my ships in place (I'm guessing as I don't have the message in front of me) in time so the compute received the VP's. I took a close look at the map and I believe off the West Coast is the correct place to place the ships, so not sure what to do to avoid losing those points. 2.It would be nice if saved ship designs could be accessed in new games (or from any saved game file), so if I start a new gsameI don't have to redo my favorite ship designs. Or I can reference an existing design from a different game. 3.I was just offered battle with my two CA's. I'm playing in "Captain's Mode". My objective is to sink two transports. *in these SAI battles, will my ships begin pointed in the right direction of the enemy shipping? My division was headed NE, so I'm assuming that's the general direction of the enemy. *Even though I'm in "Captain's Mode", when I right click the division flag, I can't change speed or course (the AI control check box is unchecked). How do I go about changing course and speed? Forgive me in advance if I missed any of these questions in the manual, I did skim the manual and did not find what I was looking for.

I also received an offer for another battle off the US East Coast where I had a CA, CL, (5) DD and (2) BB stationed. US forces was some BB's, CA's, and a lot of DD's. When the battle started all I had in my oob was (1) CA. I could not locate any of my other ships. Is this expected behavior? Seems very unfair to me stuck with only one CA for a raid.
Just checking because I couldn't tell if I made some mistake or this was expected?

They are randomized so that the player should be uncertain exactly what he is up against, just as real admirals were.

1. When battles are generated, there will sometimes be situations when the player or the AI doesn't have the ships selected in the battle routines. That will generate a VP penalty, as you didn't have the force to oppose the enemy.
2. In 1.1 we will have such a functionality, as it has been suggested by several players.
3. Ships courses will be locked for 10 minutes in most scenarios, just to make sure the forces meet and the player doesn't "cheat" by immediately turning tail if he suspects he is in for a tough battle, even if he hasn't yet sighted something.

Played some more and answered a few of my own questions. *looks like the ability to control your ships become available after meeting the enemy *For this battle I was to sink two transports. I sunk them and one of my cruisers was running low on fuel, so figure I would end the scenario (even though there were more transports to sink). I selected "Exit Scenario" and I got a message warning me I will not get any Vp's if the scenario is not over. I'm assuming it's over since I sunk two transports. So I click ok and get the summary of the battle...but what now? The scenario battle screen is still displayed. I'm not sure how to get back to the main campaign screen. I'm at the end of the scenario, but it is not clear how to get back to the main screen?
thanks

Close the scenario screen with the X at top right.

Thanks for the reply. Well, this is a bummer, I got a message stating the battle was a draw and both of us got 0 VP's. I met the objective of sinking 2 transports (actually sunk 6), so why no VP's? I'm thinking I didn't exit or finish the scenario correctly?
*For ships needing repair and refueling do I send them back to my home sector (England in this case) and I'm assuming it's automatic as I don't see an option to refuel or repair. *For ships in distant stations is there an indicator as to how much fuel is left? *after a battle do I need to replenish my ammo? If so, by moving back to home sector?
Thanks for answering so quickly and for your great support on this game.
