Magazine explosions are governed by the traits of the owning nation.
Reaching it's design speed etc is governed by the traits of the building nation.

Ok, so Hidden Flaw's propensity for blowing ships up has as much to do for WW1 Britain's love of maximum rate of fire at the expense of safety procedure as it does ship design, gotcha.
Thanks.

Hidden flaws can affect other stuff as well, like AP shells being worse than expected or high dud rate.

When to use them is really a matter of taste. The Germans were firing quite a lot of SAP from 12 in guns at Jutland, the famous hit on the Lions Q turret was from an SAP shell. I suggest using it in heavy guns against CA and CL and in medium guns against CL. The real conundrum of course is what proportion to load up with. That I leave to you. Real navies had different philosophies. The German KM in WW2 usually had 1/3 each of AP, SAP and HE. The British carried almost exclusively AP and some HE but no SAP in WW2. Out of curiosity, which research branch does SAP ammo benefit from? I'm guessing AP Projectiles? Also, when you check gun data it lists the gun's range and penetration figures at various distances, I assume this is when its firing an AP shell?

The damage of all kinds of projectiles actually benefits to a smaller or larger degree from HE shells research.
The penetration values are for AP shells.

In the Ship Design module there is an option to load a picture. I would really enjoy putting images in there of similar Real Life ships from Janes Fighting Ships and the web. I loaded a jpf file but that did not work. Is there a image size and a certain format I have to follow to get this feature going.
Really enjoying this game. I have always wanted a design a ship program...this one delievers on that and I get a great combat system too.

I've got a question. Are these allied events new in 1.1 or 1.11? I haven't played many games since the patches came out, and while I never had many allies in my 1.0 games, I never saw these kind of events. I've had a few where enemy or allied ships get destroyed or heavily damaged.

From the update notes:
* Fixed a bug that caused messages about ally combats and ship losses not to show.
These things happened before, but the messages never showed.

I swear I double checked those! Next time I should wait until morning before thinking about asking stupid questions at 1am.

'Rule the Waves' must be the best game value out of 15mb of disc space imaginable. Thanks.
