I would love to have a tactical spin off of RTW2 that allowed me to build ships and/or use a library of historical ships to play with. I guess that would be more an expansion of Steam and Iron into the 1940's so maybe this isn't the right forum.
In any case - any clue what NWS is up to after RTW2?

I am hoping for tractor beams, transporters, warp drives, time travel, cloaking devices and the Vulcan nerve pinch.

Hey Kyle - hope you are doing well! We will possibly put out at least one expansion for RTW2...then we will nail down what comes next... :-)

then we will nail down what comes next... :-) My vote is to bring SAI up to speed with RTW2, and then release a campaign-export expansion for RTW2. Basically, at the start of a war, the player would have the option to select one or more theaters to be exported as SAI operational campaigns. The ships present in theater at the start of the war would determine the fleet available at the beginning of the campaign, and fleet movements made in the RTW game would determine the automatic arrivals and withdrawals made in the course of the campaign. Players could then share the campaign sets for their wars on the forum as a sort of playable AAR.

Command modern operations starts in 1945. You can use historical ships or modify historical ships and arrange set tactical battles.
Aurora 4x just came out with a huge update. It has a ship builder that rivals rtw2.

I CRAVE more of the historical games like SAI and SAI RJW. Basically, I bought both RTW games to support the devs in the hope they would do another such historical game. RTW is great, but I like the history more. I still play loads of RJW and SAI. Fantastic titles.

I think the focus should be much more on current issues. IIRC in last 4 months or so we got only some small bugfix. Even without any modding, the game sometimes announces error, sometimes does absolutely stupid things (like building much worse ships than 10 years before, or the opposite - building ships with technology that absolutely should not exist {pre-dreads with DP guns and stuff}, or using battleships for flotilla attacks at point blank range). Let alone still missing (or incomplete) tech like SSM. There are also other problems, which were not even aknowledged - most importantly there is a lack of AI vs AI diplomacy. Sometimes you get called to war by your ally, but thats all. This means that the budget is constantly unbalanced, because you have to counter all AI, and AI only has to counter you. Imagine any other global strategy game with such approach. Its due to all those facts that the game still feels kinda like some open beta version. Sure, it would be great to have some DLC like early ironclads, cold war, or subs expansion, but there are things that are much more important at this moment. And TBH, the progress in those more important things seems to be very slow without any explanations (even in those things that were announced before the game was released as essential parts of the game {4example those missiles}). Maybe it would be great to have some progress log (one sentence per month would be OK for me). Until now, we had just some vague informations that could be summarized as "we are working on some DLC", which would be OK if the game was completed. But the game still doesnt look complete. Its not like I want to criticize the devs on every occasion, but when I follow the development of other kinda similar games where the devs also have to create 3D models and animations, their development still seems to be a bit faster. I know that there is probably just a single dev that creates the script of this game, but still, you should not promise what you cannot deliver. And speaking about DLCs or other games when the game after 1.5 years still doesnt contain everything that was announced is IMHO a bit premature. I hope my english skills are enough to make this look like a polite criticism and not to offend anyone by it.

I would like to see an expansion into the earlier naval periods. If you did it right sail powered ships would be great in this genre.

We are currently working on an expansion for RTW2 that will expand some items and add others, etc...more details when we are solid with what we know we will 100% be able to include.

Oooh I like that idea of a campaign exporter to SAI. Never played SAI and don't know anything about it but campaigns and operations sounds great. My biggest wish in RTW is for a better strategic layer. Better diplomacy, alliances to mean something, minor nations, campaigns and operations rather than a random battle generator that gives very wonky and unrealistic battles at times.
Age of sail would be interesting with the way these games are made. Honestly though with Ultimate Admiral Age of Sail idk. That fills that itch for me. And how much designing can you do with sailing vessels? I guess a ship designer isn't super necessary for every game, I've only played RTW and RTW 2 so I don't know what they're like. Is an end of age of sail into ironclad into predread into dreadnought into carrier age game too much? Lol most likely
I don't know what I'm talking about lol

I would like to see an expansion into the earlier naval periods. If you did it right sail powered ships would be great in this genre. There's a heck of a lot of work needed for sail powered ships at the tactical level, even if simplified to just one type of rigging and sail. There would also need to be work on gunnery to allow multi-deck broadsides to be built and used effectively, not to mention effect of sea states on ships with open broadside hatches. Probably also a major expansion of armour types (wooden hull, timber-clad*, iron-clad, iron hull, iron on iron, composite armour...) with drop down menus? Strategic sail and tactical steam is more practical, though still needing the extra armour types.
