I thought there was already a thread regarding this, but I can't find it. I own and play both the old RTW (RTW1?) and RTW2. Both are enjoyable, especially to a USN vet and those who love naval history. I still enjoy RTW1, but the changes in RTW2 are nice. RTW1 is good because it deals only with combat between ships and you don't have to worry about death falling from the skies. RTW2 has an option for delayed aircraft/carrier development, but would it be possible to add an option to completely eliminate aircraft development and remove air power from a game? You could also add an option for airship development only, and even add an increased emphasis on various non-historical airship developments, like airship cruisers or something theoretical like that. I know that the increased weight of heavier guns or even armor would be problematic on a lighter than air vessel, but it might have been possible with increase lifting ability. Maybe something like the Albatross from Verne's 'Master of the World' with a rotor system. . Anyway, I would like to see an option to remove air power from RTW2.

It would be interesting but I don’t think eliminating all aircraft would be fun maybe just eliminating aircraft carriers or just to be able to build light carriers. Float planes and airbases should stay because I do feel it can get a little annoying with aircraft but I feel the main culprit are the carriers became I normally play with 60 airbase limit which helps limit worrying about land based aircraft. So maybe for research aircraft development can only go to a certain level and then maybe it gets locked. But at the same time I would like to see where you can only build light carriers which might also help? I still love RTW2 and aircraft development can get interesting later you go but it is fun for me playing as Japan and launching surprise attacks with carriers during the start of a war.

I'd be ok with varying levels of air power, but I'd still like to see an option...just an option...to play an RTW2 game without air power. I still play and enjoy RTW1 and don't miss aircraft in it at all, but I'd like to have the game improvements in RTW2. What is fun is different to different people.

I'd be okay with just delayed aircraft development actually working. As things currently stand, the AI will always get to acquire all the various types of aircraft and build CVs, regardless of where they're at in researching the associated technologies (try this yourself with a 10% research campaign with slow aircraft development check-marked if you don't believe me).

I've already run into this myself. You are right, the delayed aircraft development just doesn't work correctly.
